Not sure how I missed this till now, but sometime late last month Mattel revealed their plans for a Justice League Action toyline and showed off pictures of the first wave. In a bit of a change for Mattel, the JLA line will be comprised of 2" tall figures that can be bought individually or in 3-packs. The first wave 3-packs apparently include the pieces needed to build a figure of Darkseid. There's also a large gimick Batman figure, a large Batman with transforming batcycle, and mask & communicator sets. Not really sure what to think of the line yet. I was kinda hoping for a line of figures in the 4" scale, kinda like the JLU line, or something along the lines of the DC Super Hero Girls action figures, but the 2" figures don't look too bad. I might at least get the 3-packs, as those contain most of the characters I would want. Edit: Here's a link to a bunch more photos of the toys. Includes photos and info on the 12" figures, a 12" scaled batmobile, the 2" scaled transforming batmobile, and armored versions of the 12" Superman and Batman figures. I don't know...their 6" figures are a lot worse than Hasbro Marvel ones and that's saying a lot. The 2" Marvel figures looked like complete junk to me so how good could these be? I'll have to see but probably not interested.
Assuming the line doesn't somehow get canned after wave 1, I definitely see them making a Plastic Man at some point. Also, definitely add me to the list who would get a figure of him. I'm definitely in the minority on this, as I personally prefer Mattel's 6" offerings and consider Hasbro's to be vastly overrated. That said, I actually kinda like the look of the 2" figures that Hasbro have been doing. I'm currently in the process of getting the images to post here. Would be done by now, but my phone is not cooperating...
I actually found some at Walmart the other day. These are the same Mighty Mini blind bags and vehicles/robots that they've already been doing for stuff like the Superman/Batman movie (the Green Arrow robot has been warming pegs at Target for some time now). Luckily the blind bags are clearly marked... I don't remember off the top of my head but I know A1 is normal Batman. Also saw the Transforming batmobile that comes with one of the minis, and the larger transforming Batman and Superman figures. I'd prefer a traditional line but I don't mind variety in the little three dollar figures.
Not interested in anything smaller than GIJoe. On what planet do these people that greenlight 2" figurines live? Is there really that much money to be made chasing customers who won't pay more than $7?
I've added all of the photos that have been released so far. Hopefully Toy Fair will shed some light on the line as a whole and Mattel's intent for it. I'm kinda hoping that these 2" figures are just a line their doing till they get a larger scaled line in the works, but at the same time I'm not going to count on anything beyond these happening.
I knew the 2" JL:A figures were coming, and I might pick up a few. I have a few of the BvS and Batman Unlimited "Mighty Minis" figures. Yes, they only have 4 points of articulation, but if you like mini-figures, they can be fun.
But who says these are he main line? BvS had these mighty minis as well as a variety of other toys. There are other kinds of toys out there, but thus far no standard action figures. And CN is already putting this 15 minute series on a crappy schedule (seriously they haven't even gotten to new episodes beyond the multi episode premiere) so we'll see.
The wording of some of the articles I've read about the line make it sound like they are, but you are right, for all we know these might not be the main line of figures for JLA. That said, knowing Mattel, it wouldn't exactly surprise me if they were. I think the time slot itself is good, but what does bother me about the schedule is that they're only airing one episode at a time, rather than two like they have with TTG.
So series 1 of the blind bags consists of: Batman (my bag was 28460B.A1) Batman stealth shot Blue Beetle Jamie Reyes Firestorm Ronnie Raymond (F1) Lex Luthor (G1) The Flash Robin Shadow Mission Superman Second series which I didn't see: The Atom Batman Shadow Mission Green Arrow The Joker Lex Luthor Kryptonite Superman Hologram Superman Solar Shield Wonder Woman with terrible haircut They basically come in the bag in pieces: legs, torso, and two arms, maybe a cape if applicable. The head is actually a separate piece but comes attached to the torso. The advertised gimmick is that you can mix and match pieces. I don't mind getting them as long as they're not truly blind bags.
Yeah, I hate blind bags, so I'm happy that the Mighty Minis have codes on them. Please continue to post your codes, if you get more of the bags.
Added a link in the first post to some photos of some of the other toys that have been announced so-far. Mostly 12" figure stuff. Actually saw the 2" scaled transforming batmobile and the big electronic gimmick Batman figure at a Walmart yesterday. Not sure if the ones I saw where defective, but both of their physical gimmicks were very... floppy. Nothing moving on the batmobile seemed to lock in-place in either mode, and the Batman figure's wings/cape flopped around rather loosely at all times. Hopefully Toy Fair will bring news of a 4" line of some kind.
Toy Fair brought us some good news in the form of a line of 5" figures: Toy Fair 2017 - Mattel DC Entertainment - The Toyark - News Not yet sure I'll get any of them, but they don't look too bad. Hopefully the line continues for a good while and they do plenty more characters. The Superman ship is... interesting. I imagine we'll see a Batmobile at some point and maybe even an invisible plane.
Sorry but yikes. Depending on the price point I guess it may not be too bad for kids but that's the best I can say.
Mighty Minis are shelfwarming and already in clearance here so... this isn't great news. I wished they had a proper line instead of just adding releases to their existing ones, but gotta give them props, packing Atom with the 12" Batman is a cute idea. Plus these have knees, so it's the better version of their 12" figures.
Oh weird I've only seen JLA mighty minis at Walmart, the Targets around here only have the Batman v Superman ones still clogging the shelves.
Series 1 Mighty Minis Blind Bags Figure Codes, for anyone interested: A1 - Batman Figure B1 - Superman Figure C1 - The Flash Figure D1 - Shadow Mission Batman Figure E1 - Blue Beetle Figure F1 - Firestorm Figure G1 - Lex Luthor Figure H1 - Shadow Mission Robin Figure Disappointed that Wonder Woman wasn't included in the first series...
