When the announcement for the TF: Prime panel at Comic-Con came out, I over looked a name. Character designer-Jose Lopez. Those of you unfamiliar with his work, he did character design work on The Batman and Green Lantern: First Flight.

I was just checking my RSS feeds and noticed he finally updated his blog. And I was very surprised when I read this:

So it looks like Lopez is the new Derek Wyatt. AND, unless I totally misread that, he will be posting more things on his blog as he can. If you aren't familiar with his work, check out the blog. He's pretty freaking awesome.

I didn't realise the show would be a mix of 2D animation and CGI. That doesn't always work, but hopefully they get'll get it right.

yeah, energon is the biggest offender of this......man, if energon was drawn exactly like the scene between inferno and megatron....the series would of been TONS better visually

I'm really curious to see how this looks, considering how fluid this guy's character designs appear. Apparently he did a lot of character designs for the last TMNT movie too. You can see a lot more of his work on his blog, and it's a lot of good stuff.

Some very sharp design work on that blog. This really boosts my interest in the show.

I thought it was going to be all CGI. This should be interesting, unless they pull off what Transformers Cybertron did and had the Transformers in CGI and the human characters in traditionally drawn anime style.

Also, one of the Hartman brothers being involved raises my expectations for this show.

As a Fan... This show is going to be awesome. The cast and the crew is amazing. This roundup is one of the best we've seen for a cartoon show in recent times (let alone for a TF show). I'm glad Jose's in on this. :)

Check if you have Discovery Kids. If you have it... Then you'll get Prime. :)

Huh? How did you come to that conclusion? Do Jon and Karl Hartman, the Hartmans you are referring to, have a brother named Dave who is involved in the animation industry?

I'm pretty sure they don't have Discovery Kids in Canada.

    Eh, someone'll pick it up.

Disappointed with the fact that it is a 2d/3d hybrid.

Was hoping for a full 3d show like Beast Wars.

It's cool that we might actually be getting some answers about the show instead of having to guess just what it is based on the Bumblebee image.

Not a fan of the Bumblebee design but I've seen other stuff the guy has done designs for so I've got my fingers crossed that his designs on the show will be something I can get into. I'm mostly going to watch the show for story and characters, but some nice design work sure doesn't hurt.

2D and 3D mixed depends on how it's done. I've seen some really horrible examples of it because the 2D art style and 3D art style did not match up. On the other hand I've seen it where art styles match perfectly and it's hard to tell it apart. Sort of like on Futurama it's only when you get thinking about how they managed the camera work on a shot that you realize the show was using 3D to pull it off.

Crap, sorry. I just figured that the last name was...you get the point.

But still, Prime has me intrigued.

I absolutely love Mr. Lopez's style. Can't wait to see the designs of the characters. Wyatt's going to be a tough act to follow IMHO.
