One of the interesting things, though, about the 1986 movie is that it enacted a slow burn effect. Yeah, it was the beginning of the end of G1 Transformers...but WITHOUT it, I doubt Transformers would have the fandom it has today. In some ways, Hasbro got lucky...their gamble paid off but it would be 20 years later and a successful supplemental Transformers series (Beast Wars and, yes, Armada) would be needed to pad the time for the pay off. Add the Bayverse movies to the mix and 2007 pushed Transformers back into the limelight where it's stayed ever since...a swirling ramble of nostalgia, new fans and a glut of toys that challenged us once completists to the point of madness.

There's no doubt it was not a financial success, but I think G1 was going to decline no matter what, and not because of the deaths of old characters and introduction of new characters. Its decline was inevitable die to the simple fact that many kids introduced to the original cartoon were outgrowing Transformers and moving on to other things.

And it's a shame that the third season isn't more popular, as it's actually less formulaic than earlier seasons and has some interesting characters and lore. Yeah, some returning characters are way different, but that actually results in some interesting stories. However, at the very least the 1986 movie and later seasons and comics gave Transformers a much, much richer source material.

If the 1986 movie and Season 3 had never happened, we actually wouldn't have many of the most important and concepts in the brand, so in the long term context of the brand they almost certainly were great things.

I mean, what else do you want me to say, really? I see parallels, you don't. There isn't any deeper discussion to be had there, and I don't see why anybody would get bent out of shape about it. I thought it was kind of funny.

Who's getting bent out of shape? I'm simply pointing out how your comparisons are pointless. Maybe you are bent out of shape by me calling you out?

Oh it most certainly can. You seem to not realize you are potentially invoking Murphy's Law here.

    I sure did.

But Wonder Woman at least turned the ship around as much as possible before we got Justice League.

I wonder if Mr Cena is aware of the overall stigma surrounding the live Transformers movies and WHY Transformers fans tend to view them with such contempt and ridicule.

All I ever want John Cena to tell me is that War for Cybertron and Fall Of Cybertron are getting remastered for the Nintendo Switch, and that more and better games are in the works.

Otherwise, I’m still hoping Studio Trigger gets a crack at making new TF anime.

It’s our only hope in our darkest horror.

Raise your hands if you are disappointed with the lack of marketing for this movie!

Cena talking about "the consumer" pretty much summarises this movie series thus far.

In them being honest about fiction being a product and not some half-holy worldwonder that is somehow quantifiably "good" or "bad" and can save humanity from whatever is a fashionable thing?
