Bumblebee as a VW Bug should earn this a lot of good will from longtime fans who have been alienated by Bay's vision of this franchise. If the producers really want to show that this movie is not the same old mess: release a teaser trailer / music video of Bumblebee lipsyncing and playing air guitar to "The Touch". Even the handful of dumb stubbies who don't associate the song with Transformers will recognize the campy and upbeat fun as a massive departure from the dour and mindless brand the movie has grown a reputation for.

 

Dumb question: why 1987 and not 1984 ?

By 87\' BB was already into his two year Goldbug phase. (Unless they find a way to work that in as an Easter Egg, then it will make perfect sense)

I'm having a hard time imagining Bayverse Bee's head on classic bumblebee in a good way. (Or maybe we get Bayverse Bee with a bug bumper forming his shoulders and chest).

 

I'm sure they'll sneak Cena's wrestling theme in on Bumblebee's radio.

People are excited about this? Wow.

 

I'm excited for the movie. The cast is pretty good, the smaller robot cast is gonna be easier to deal with (probably less characters to complain about not getting a toy as well), the plot seems interesting, and the VW BB is too. The Rock being in it is cool. I just wish it wasn't delayed so far back. Not to mention, June 8th is the day before my birthday, but that's a long wait regardless! Still hyped and wondering who else is gonna join the robot roster alongside Bee.

I'm hoping this movie is a bit more lighthearted and rated PG. I would love to take my 7 year old to see a Transformers movie.

I think it is very clear what demographic they're going for is they have HIM on board.

And it's not the demographic who want the films to have actual, meaningful weight to the plot.

 

After seeing The Last Knight i do not have much faith in these films any more. Especially with the same producer(s). I hope this bumblebee movie is something entirely different. Not just a bunch of bad acting and one-liners. But i have a strong feeling this film is going to be marketed towards young people. So chances are thats all it will be. Great special effects, everything thing else sucks.

 

Yeah I noticed that myself. May be they it is some hint about picking up where Transformers series ended.

This. I wasnt on-board with the 2007 Transformers film till I heard that Peter Cullen was casted as Optimus Prime. It was a good move by the filmmakers to reel in the G1 fans.

 

Cena in Transformers? Couldn't hurt. He's funny and charismatic.
