To sum this up in one word - incredible. Absolutely incredible.

After a previously, we learn how Lex and co survived the destruction of the ship. Sinestro's Power Ring shielded them (unfortunately, that handful of villains seems to have been it). Of course, that didn't help them get back to Earth - but a friendly passerby who really should have known better was persuaded to "lend" them his Motherbox.
    Great job, Lightray!
Darkseid's armies attack all over Earth. Paris, Tokyo, China are all overrun by Parademons. And, of course, the mothership is in Metropolis. With nothing left to lose, the League - all of them - and the villains go into battle. Nice sequence showing everyone suiting up for battle. Ice and Fire even get homages to Spider-man and his Amazing Friends!
The battles are pretty intense. Lots of characters, Hawkman cameo, but it all comes down to Superman, Batman and Lex VS Darkseid. Darkseid smacks Superman with the Daily Planet globe, in the process taking out the whole building. Superman fights Darkseid to a standstill, but he can't get any advantage. Batman even takes him on, all he ends up doing is buying Superman some time to catch his breath. Superman really cuts loose. He explains how he always has to hold back for fear of killing his opponent. But with Darkseid, he doesn't have to worry about that. He slams him right through a dozen skyscrapers, and is waiting on the other end to smash Darkseid into the pavement. But Darkseid has a last trick, and the tables are turned. The worst pain imaginable, times a thousand, constantly afflicts Superman. He's down for the count.
In the ruins of the Daily Planet, Luthor meets Metron again. Metron mentions a way to defeat Darkseid, and Luthor accepts. They go to the Source Wall (cool!)
In China, an old man strays into the battle with the Parademons. Wonder Woman tells him to pull back, but the old guy can hold his own. He knocks one out, before taking to the air and shapeshifting into a chinese dragon, then he resumes his original form - Martian Manhunter's back! And, evidently, he got married in his time out (he's seen sending his wife to safety before entering battle. Really clever).
In Metropolis, it's over. Darkseid stands victorious, Kryptonite knife he has saved for this occasion in hand. Then, Luthor reappears, a glow around him. He holds out his hand to Darkseid, revealing his new power, the Anti-Life Equation. Darkseid reaches out for it, and a massive explosion envelopes them both. When the dust settles, they're gone.

The last scene is really well done. The villains are allowed to go free... with a five minute head start. There is some doubt to the final fates of Luthor and Darkseid - we saw them die, but we've seen them die before and they came back. Flash gets a really cool final line - "these are the ending days", followed up by Diana's "but the adventure continues."
The League run down the steps of the Metro Tower, pursuing the villains. First, we have some of the JLU era characters. Then, GL, Flash and Hawkgirl, followed lastly by the big three themselves.

It's an awesome episode. A really fitting conclusion for an incredible series. The fights were great, Jonn's return and Luthor's heroic sacrifice made the episode for me. Too bad there won't be any more episodes now, I'm going to miss the DCAU in this form. But it went out on a high note with one of the coolest animated battles I have ever seen.

    I cannot wait...

Teen Titans would have ended better if they ended it on the fight with the brotherhood of villains instead of "Is it Terra or not?'

YTV's airing JLU 504 - To Another Shore this next Wednesday

3 more weeks and I'll be seeing episodes I haven't d/l'ed from Limewire.

Oooh I'm so tempted to check Limewire though.

But I think it'll be better on TV.Then I can stretch out with a hot bowl of buttered popcorn & watch DC heroes and villains pummel each other :ev:  :ev:

    *EDIT*

Guess Darkseid really was dead for the past while.Oh well after SolFury's previous spoiler thread. It was obvious that Darkseid and Brainiac would be merged

    Sounds incredible.

Let us all mourn the passing of what could be considered the greatest superhero series ever made.

That has to be the greatest ending to the greatest superhero series ever. But since I missed out on last night's ep on Cartoon Network, I'll just have to torrent it.

    RIP Diniverse: 1992 - 2006

You started off like a lion, and went out with a bang.

Kudos to Paul Dini and Bruce Timm for 14 years of excellent animation and storytelling.

Bats saving Luthor was the part for me.

Just shows how noble his character was in this series.

Just for someone who's been out of the loop, what exactly happened w/ Manhunter? Why was he hiding out as a retired person?

Wow... what an ending. Maybe a little light on plot, but it more than made up for it with action. It was great to see the entire League fight this time, even if it was mostly cameos, instead of just focusing on the founding seven.

I'm so mad that the show is cancelled, I'm dying to know what J'onn was doing for the past year, where Luthor and Darkseid went, and of course, what will happen with GL and Hawkgirl.

Has anyone else noticed that a lot of the groupings had a theme to them?

    - Hawk, Dove, Creeper, and the Question were teamed up in one city to fight off the Parademon hordes. All four of them were created by Steve Ditko. In the final shot, they're also close together in exiting the Metro Tower.

    - After them are Stargirl, S.T.R.I.P.E., Crimson Avenger, Vigilante, and Shining Knight, five of the Seven Soldiers Of Victory.

    - Next are Dr. Fate, Hourman, Dr. Mid-Nite, and Wildcat, representing the Justice Society of America.

    - Vibe, Vixen, Steel, and Gypsy, the one and only Justice League Detroit.

    - Booster Gold, Fire, Ice, and Elongated Man, representing the Giffen/Dematteis era League

A nice way to pay tribute to different incarnations of the League for the final episode (althought I still consider "Epilogue" to be the true finale). Thank you, Bruce Timm, and everyone involved for the past 14 years, it's been a rush. And no thanks to you Cartoon Network, for giving up on this show in favor of... whatever you're trying to accomplish now.

    1. Who is Sam Register?

    2. I agree with the person above...WHY was Martian Manhunter disguising himself? Did he leave the team or something? I've been out of the loop, too.

    3. Were Batman and Lex killing the aliens? If so...COOL.

    Now, a bit of editorializing:

That was awesome. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. It's even MORE awesome that this episode was probably made in a rush, because the creators were probably on the assumption that they'd have more seasons. I can only imagine how awesome if would be if this was a longer arc, like one of those 10-episode X Men arcs back in the 90s.

I also find it very fitting that Batman is both the first and last thing you see in the DC animated universe.

Teh fuck? How is everyone seeing this episode can someone pm me with the info I have all of jlu s3 except #13 usually my torrent sources are good to me but now I am forsaken.

Sam Register is a dick who controls or has uber sway in determining cartoon networks line up he dislikes BT's art and said its dated. No doubt he had lots of say in closing the DCAU. best ongoing action cartoon the US has produced. Well at least we still have avatar.

Someone on the ToonZone forums pointed out that we never see Darkseid make good on his "Where do you think I'm going next?" in the last episode, and similarly, none of the New Gods are seen helping the League in battle. Looks like there may have been script cuts for time's sake. (It would have been nice if they made this a 3-parter, but I can't pick an episode that they could've dropped for that to happen)

Brilliant episode, filled with action and a nice insight to Superman "holding back" his power. Also, was pretty amazed by J'onn's reappearance (guess he likes older women:p ) and back in action. Overall there's so much to say, but I will miss Diniverse for a long time to come.:(

But, I believe he'll be writing 12 issues of Batman for DC. So all is good in the world still! :D

Early on in this season, it was established that (for all intents and purposes) the last two seasons had happened in real time. Meaning J'onn had spent two whole years living on the Watchtower "like a hermit" as Wonder Woman said. When he realized that he had no comprehention of the people living on the planet he protected, J'onn resigned from active duty and decided to try and learn more about humanity.

    Evidently, his efforts were successful!
