Jettison some weight, or I'll never make it to Cybertron!

Okay, for starters, can someone care to explain how would Astrotrain have any problems when it's weightless in space?

Had he not bitched, maybe Megatron would still be alive.

The main bit of contention I have with that scene is the resulting fight afterwards, with Starscream, Devastator, and Soundwave fighting for leadership. If I were Astrotrain, I'd have said "I'm leader of the Decepticons now, or I'm blowing all you bastards outta the Primusdamned airlock"

Yeah. That's a miss opportunity he got there.

And for some reason, he's smaller than Starscream heightwise but he fit's even Devastator. :lol

The word he should have used was mass. Not weight. The way I look at it, Astrotrain was trying to accelerate to a speed that would get him to Cybertron in a decent amount of time. Acelleration uses energon. The more mass Astrotrain has, the more energon he uses to accelerate to a certain speed (yes this still applies in a vacuum, you just don't have gravity and air resistance helping to hinder you). So if they throw out a few 'cons, his mass goes down and he uses less energon to accelerate to a given speed.

    Also remember: kids cartoon. ;)

They knew there was no weight in Space in 1995; sloppy writing is sloppy writing.

EDIT: Wait, maybe I missed the point on your post, cause I'm thinking 1986...

Maybe he just said that to fool them and get rid of them.

So glad I got my Astrotrain autographed.

Another thing to consider: if some of the Decepticons who were still functional got out and helped pushed with their thrusters, everyone could have made it to Cybertron sooner.

Trent has it right. There's still mass in space, and having more of it costs more reaction mass (fuel). Now, it's possible, given all the mass shifting, that Astrotrain uses some kind of space magic warp ether drive, but most science fiction, for consistency and comprehensibility, goes with the common sense axiom that more mass = more effort.

He's got to have some kind of FTL drive; there's no other way that they'd get to cybertron so fast otherwise. That being the case, more thrusters wouldn't help, any more than having a buddy to lean on makes walking around the world appreciably faster or a better option than taking a plane.

Things aren't weightless in space, just not subjected as strongly to the pull of a planet's gravity.

As to why everyone didn't just shunt some mass, maybe they were too damaged to do so? (It's actually because of the writers)

:confused2 People have no problem with a MICRO TAPE DECK, A Gun, or a camera growing over 30 feet. Robot Insects who make copies of themselves from thin air that are actually metal and can fire solid missles and lasers. But how a spaceshuttle grows and shrinks we question?

Astrotrain has cameras in his vehicle bay. All across the Galaxy, sentient beings will be on their computer devices watching: "Dumbasses fight over Con leadership." on Youtube. Astrotrain gets millions of views, entertainment, popularity, and all he had to do was idly remark he needed to lose some dead weight.

    Astrotrain wins :)

Answering this the same way I answer the rest of them:

For the same reason the Ark is pressurized.

    He just does.

He means this topic was old in 1995.

Like "Frenzy and Rumble, which colors are correct?", "Who were Cyclonus and Scourge originally, and what of Cyclonus's Armada?", "I can't deal with that now" jokes, "Wheelie is the most annoying character ever" and a bunch of other things that came up as soon as people discovered a) the internet and b) there were other Transformers fans on the internet. Still, all these topics keep popping up every once in a while, started by people who apparently seem to think they came up with something no-one else ever thought of before.
