...Will be ULTIMATES v3. http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=42045 This is a really bizarre shift, which makes me tempted to see how it ends up.
Interesting. I was never a big fan of Mad's art. Too goofy looking most of the time, but 90% of the reason I read comics is just that, to read. As long as Loeb is as consistant as he's been in the past, it'll be fine.
It's going to take awhile to get used to once Millar and Hitch leave. I like Mad's art, but don't think it's right for this series unless they plan on changing the tone of the book. Though more I think of it, the more better it sounds to me. Maybe it'll be a more all out action book.
Supposedly in tomorrow's WIZARD (a section of the interview is mentioned at http://www.herorealm.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4702 ), the following is in the Loeb/Mad article:
Why does one of my favorite comics have to go and get fucked up? WHY!??! Loeb does superhero comics really, really well, that I won't deny (except for the ending of HUSH), but Ultimates isn't....it isn't a "superhero" comic. It's a "super-powered humans that are tragicly human" comic! It IS about politics, and people being scum despite being heroes! I can survive with a shift in art, because as much as I like Hitch's artwork, the story is more important to me. But from what Loeb's said, about making it more superhero-y with more 616-style costumes, I'm afraid for the storyline. Although, with groundwork in Ultimates 2, I've got a feeling that Ultimates 3 will focus largely on the Vision and Ultron. It'd also make a decent "superhero-y" comic. I just hope all works out well..
Not over the moon about this in any way. I like the book as it is because it IS DIFFERENT. If I wanted a standard Superhero book, I would get one. >_<
I've not familiar with the new teams work, but so far The Ultimates has been excellent (though I only have the first 2 TPB) Though I do prefer that all the Ultimate series try to do there own thing, in terms of costumes and stories, and not follow the 616 universe to close. Also, for The Ultimate Vol 3 to come out, wouldn't they have to finish Ultimate Vol 2 first? Seems to be taking ages. Oh, and i wonder if this will affect The Ultimate Secret series?
No, it's actually not finished. #9 was the last to come out in 2001 (and published by Image instead of Wildstorm), before Madureira decided to leave comics for video game development.
Ultimates v3 is planned for (I think) late 2006 (all these bits of news are just placed in advance to get the buzz going). Theoretically, Millar and Hitch are planning to finish v2 around early to mid 2006. Since v3 is supposed to take place long after v2, I don't think it'll effect the Ultimate Secret series.
Sounds like spring is a good time to quit reading ultimates. I agree, if I wanted to read a superheroey version of ultimates I would pick one up like "new avengers".
Interesting. While I like Loeb and Mad, I'm not sure this is the book for them, but I'll wait and see, like I said, interesting. Also, the new Wizard has some of Mad's sketchs for the book, for those who haven't seen them, here's a few.
Meh. I could live with Hulk, but that Black Widow is much too comic book cookie cutter for me. Cap makes me happy, though, as it shows that they'll be sticking to the core Hitch design (utility pockets on the belt, brown gloves, etc) I'm betting on a new Iron Man armor, too...one much more like the 616 armor, which I'll withhold judgement on until I see it. I expect disappointment, though.
Those pictures look nice. I've been thinking about picking up Ultimates, but I might just wait until after the new team takes over.
On top of that, the 2 issues Mad draws will be 5 months apart. Seriously, you can't remove Hitch and Millar and think the new team is not going to be different. And if you get someone that tries to continue what Hitch and Millar does, then you get the same stories but not as good as the originals and you end up with something less then stellar. The reason for Mad and Loeb is that those guys got a following, and it guarantees readers to the comic. Also, I've been reading the Hulk comic since the Peter David days, and that's a prime example of EVERYTHING changing with changes to thecreative team. It's expected.
