The original source material was much more innovative, ahead of it's time. This version is nothing more than an angsty feminist propaganda garbage and Hasbro allowed this to happen.

Standard movie about small town band thrust into stardom where the singer is manipulated into believing she is the "star" and should cut the band loose, only to realize that to be her "true self" she needs her friends and has to get them back? Check. Universal Studio's presents Josie and the Pussycats!

Since I've only heard of Jem by reputation I must ask if this is anything like the original.

 

Just watched the trailer out of curiosity, and it reminds me a bit of that Disney movie Lemonade Mouth.

Compare it to the original opening.

 

Well, apparently during the film she "becomes a misfit" by alienating her friends, the company name is Starlight Productions, and "synergy" becomes a catchphrase.

It's a cookie-cutter teen-american-idol-sappy-over-the-top-drama with hugging and regrets and blah blahblah blah blah.

Michael Bay's TMNT is probably better than this.

Ok, I'm only passingly familiar with Jem, as my sister was a fan when we were younger, so I get how WAY off base this, but I didn't get anything 'feminist' or even 'propaganda' out of it.... Garbage, absolutely, lol!
