amazon US whats the better way to watch? dubbed or subbed? did i list them in the proper order? Headmasters Masterforce then Victory just so i know viewing continuity are zone and scramble city on dvd in US like these shout releases?
Dropping this link for the second time today. Jap - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Jap" is a racial slur. Do not use it. Say Japanese, JP, or JPN instead.
That's ironic, considering your custom title. Also just pointing this out, the Shout! Factory DVDs don't have a dub track at all, apparently because Hasbro vetoed it for quality concerns. Even the UK sets omitted the dub track after Headmasters because, well, it just isn't very good (plus the compulsory ratings submission in the UK might've had something to do with it) so you don't really have a choice on the matter. Scramble City is something you can just safely skip; of the 22 minutes, about half is just clips from seasons 1 and 2, and the rest just flat-out doesn't fit into the continuity as it takes place before the movie, introducing Metroplex and Trypticon who hasn't even been built yet. Not to mention the only version available of it in the US is on the Sony DVD of the movie, with the fan commentary as the only audio option available. Pretty stupid if you ask me!
It only a racial slur as long as you continue to think of it as a racial slur. Context is important. I consider Jap as an abbreviation to be fine as thats how it should be used. The topic creator has a pure mind for not thinking of "Jap" as a racial slur. He had no intention to offend anyone and so the use shouldn't be seen as offensive.
I know he didn't mean it as that, but as a very close friend of mine constantly had that word thrown at them in a derrogatory manner, that's the only way I'm able to see it.
Agreed. Sorry for the diversion. Anyways, it's an incredibly great deal for three complete, long series. I'm still surprised they go for so cheap. They really could have charged quite a bit more and still made money. Never liked Headmasters or Victory much, but I absolutely love Masterforce. This set has some naming issues, right?
It looks like he certainly didn't mean to offend, but it's definitely a term with an ugly history of use. I can see someone taking umbrage with it in a topic title. Context or not, there were better terms the OP could have used, he's acknowledged as much, and will probably be more sensitive to the term moving on. Such is learning. I still miss that the shout DVDs don't have the StarTV dub. That thing is hilarious.
I haven't bought them yet, don't know if I'm going to, but if the StarTV dub was on there, oh hell yes I'd jump on it.
The Star TV dub was hilarious. Where else could you find gems like this: "Soundwave has been reborn! He is now... New Soundwave!"
It certainly sounds like it. While the Metrodome UK sets at least remained consistent (using Japanese names where appropriate in Headmasters, and all the time in Masterforce and Victory), the Shout! Factory discs, due to some executive meddling, seem to employ both Japanese and English names with no consistency whatsoever for Masterforce; like the Autobot Godmasters except Ginrai use their English names, the Decepticon godmasters except Doubleclouder use their Japanese names, Decepticon headmaster juniors use their English names, Autobot headmaster juniors use their Japanese names... It's a bit of a mess, really. Don't forget they continue to refer to him as such for the rest of the entire series.
I do hope you'll enjoy them. Personally I only bought Victory on DVD as it was the series that I enjoyed a lot. Masterforce was OK, Headmasters was a lot better on paper than in execution. That said, we all have our different favorites, and even if nothing else, it should keep you entertained.
If you can go to a Best Buy store, they are available for only $19.99 each. I got all three series from Best Buy, only Headmasters costed $24.99 instead.
