That’s how they look in the comic. I hated their IDW redesigns. They were always one of the coolest looking Autobots with their red and gold but IDW reduced them to grey “organic” looking dinosaurs. And they lost their cool visual appeal. I wouldn’t mind these redesigns if they were some kind of Cybertronian dinosaur, but not as the Dinobots. Everybody else had cool looking redesigns. I’d love to read about the thought process that went into these redesigns but nothing they say would change my mind about them.
I love the rendering on Ironhide. He's got an amazing glossy look! I kinda share the views on the dinobots. I just assumed who ever came up with them was a big Land Before Time fan.
You'd think they'd copy off the Fall of Cybertron designs for the Dinobots aswell since they did that for some characters at the time. But apparently not.
I'm with you on this. It's hard to beat the original G1 Dinobot designs for charm. It almost seems like "edging them up" and adding spikes and realism really misses the point. I like Nick Roche's writing, and some of his redesigns are cool, but I very much disliked his Dinobots right from the beginning, and they held on to those models for a rather long time in IDW (although other artists brought their own interpretations). zmog
