Hey all. check out this out of package pic of Japanese Classics Megatron. This figure is sweet!!!

 

It looks pretty cool, but I actually much prefer the non G1-accurate colors of the Hasbro release. This is, however, the only Japanese Classics figure I'm considering getting.

 

"Too much red" =

Complete lack of green and purple =

 

Cool, still likely I'll pick up this version.

 

See, I don't understand why everybody keeps saying he has too much red either; I actually think he would look like crap without it.

 

Peoples have said 'too much red' and/or 'wrong shade of red.' I'll grant that in prior pics, the red had more of an orange tint to it, which in the quantity present, may have looked like a bit much. But..the red looks much more red in this pic and looks fine, if not quite necessary to break up the silver/gray/black. It could do without the red on the chamber/wings but..meh. Still looks awesome.

 

The one in that pic doesn't look final IMO, since the con logo on the cannon is pinkish...?

 

It's weird, maybe I'm just used to the Hasbro version, but like Butz I think I miss the green and purple on this figure. Bright as it was, I never had a problem with those colors on the figure.

Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to seeing it in person. I think it'll look better than in this photo. One thing that's making this look like it has too much red is the fact that the wings are mis-transformed (so more red is showing in robot mode than normally would).

I would prefer if the red had been left off the shoulders and forearms, and if the inner upper-arm piece had been molded in red instead. It would have been more G1 accurate, if that's really what they're going for. It would be a pretty simple fix, with some rubbing alcohol and some dye... I'm tempted to mod it myself.

But that's being very nitpicky.   And I sure don't miss the orange caps! I have a feeling I'll totally fall in love with this after I hold it in my hands.

 

That pretty much sums up my opinion, but not as bluntly as I'd have put it.

 

Eh, I'm pretty bored by it to be honest.

 

"too much red" doesnt bother me at all. However, I think the milky white plastic looks very cheap against the chromed parts. They should've just made him all chrome or something. If they had done that, I might've considered getting him, but as it stands, I never had a problem with the Hasbro one, so there's no way I'm shelling out more for the same figure

 

I'm getting more Animated Transformers vibes from this than G1  

Still not very taken by this... but I might change my mind if I see it in person.

 

Looks like a great update to G1 Megatron in the proper colors.

 

That's the BEST emoticon ever!! It's exactly how I feel about this!

 

I honestly think the reason some people feel this looks cheap and/or think the Hasbro looks better is simply because we've gotten used to it after all this time. But I still believe that if this version came first, most people would be throwing up all over their monitors when seeing the Hasbro colored version nearly a year later in comparison.

This revised paint scheme isn't perfect, but there's no question that it's certainly more in tune with what most people wanted back when we first saw the original Classics Megatron unveiled. I remember reading thread after thread on all the TF forums of people hoping/assuming a "properly colored" version would be released later, at SDCC or BotCon... only for it to never happen.

Overall, in relation to how all the Classics paint jobs are a little whacked out, especially those of Prime, Starscream, Ramjet & Skywarp, I think this stays perfectly in theme. It's the packaging of the Japanese Classics that looks more KOish than the actual figures imo.

 

I actually prefer the colors of the Hasbro release. The scheme looks good on the figure...albeit it has always given me more of a Galvatron vibe than Megatron *shrug*..blame the Unicron trilogy turning Galvs into a white repaint of Megs.

I like the US version, but the Japanese version is awesome too.

 

I think part of the reason why people are 'eh' with this is it's been a long time since the original Classics release, and because Takara's redeco seems kind of random. Instead of being all silver or all grey, he's half -and-half.

 

I for one really like it, and can't wait to get it!
