Yeah, it's a fun scene but it's too big a set-up for too little a payoff, plus I'm struggling to see how it would have've fit into the issue overall.

There were a few other really funny scenes that didn't make it in involving Swerve and Tailgate trying to trick Rung into revealing his alt-mode.

 

That's the tricky part of editing on limited space. Scenes need to not just be *good*, but *better* than the other scenes that could go there.

In my honest opinion, this scene feels dragged out way too long. I'm glad it was cut and I feel it was the right decision, objectively.

DO like Ratchet calling out Drift on his personality-shifting. Sort of a fictional explanation why he keeps changing between authors as well.  

 

Yeah that's the biggest in-joke zinger here, and the thing I'm sorriest to miss. This was a lot of really good mini-jokes crammed into one okay maxi-joke. I kind of wish some of this banter was saved for later (or faxed to McCarthy!).

 

Even under Shane- he went from Deadlock to noble hero in a fairly short time.

Drift is, and has always been, an impressionable person.


Deadlock is Megatron-idolizing Drift. Shane's Drift in the first mini and AHM is Wing-idolizing Drift. Robert's is Rodimus-idolizing Drift. EoS Drift is kinda depressed because he's between idols.

 

You know that's actually Drift's real personality. It's not that he's McCarthy's anime OC or the Roberts Spiritualist but rather that he's impressionable.

I think that's actually an interesting character approach and it explains all of his behaviours in each part of his life.

 

Exactly. Heck, even his name: Drift. He drifts from one part of his life to the next. He'll continue on his old path, until someone else changes the direction of his drift.
