As someone who works in a game store, I almost prefer it this way. No old ladies fighting eachother for a system they can't have! Seriously though, hopefully this will also mean, like the PSP launch, their will be plenty of systems to be had. Regardless this is bad news for all those hoping that they would have a new PS3 to keep them warm this Christmas. This also should make for an interesting GDC and E3.

Now THAT Im happy about. The November madness just plain sucks. It was very nice that I was able to track down a PSP about 3 or so days after its launch date. :)

At this rate I just don't care for it anymore. For all I know, it'll cost WAY MORE than a PSP AND a full Xbox 360 bundle. Can you say, $900?

psssh. why do you think its being delayed? it'll cost 900 if they made it today, no doubt. and nothing is stopping them from making it today except that no one will pay 900.

So by next spring the parts the need will be cheaper, the manufacturing process will be perfected and they'll be enough games ready to roll to make taking a loss on hardware less of a big deal.

I guess we saw this coming. But the real question now is what does Microsoft do to gain as much ground on Sony as possible? If they release Halo 3 before Christmas and 360s are aplenty, Sony could be fighting a major uphill battle come springtime.

There’s no way it’s going to sell for $900. If I where to guess I would think $400 maybe $500 at the most.

I have made a personal decision not to buy a home system over $300 (and the gimpy have to buy a bunch of extra shit stripped out 360 does not count) and a handheld over $150

Who did not see that coming, honestly? I want names. Who releases a system in Spring hoping for great sales???!! They want money and lets face it, Christmas time is the prime-time to do it. Also Microsoft has just been given an advantage. They now have more time to develop their killer-aps like Halo 3 and gears of War to combat the PS3. Sony just screwed themselves.

True, Christmas is the prime time to make money, but as it stands, MS is having plenty of problems getting their systems out the door. It hurt them this past Christmas and may hurt them the next. I personally think that MS would have done better themselves to wait till spring to launch. It makes no sense to launch when you can't come close to meeting demand. Then you don't have any games from Dec 29th (DOA 4) till Feb 15th (Full Auto). I say get your stuff together, make sure there is a reasonable amount avalible, and make sure that you can send a reasonable amount (hell any) to the market after launch. Will this hurt Sony? Maybe. I'd say the ball is in MS's court now. Let's see if they can capatialize...

I lurk on a few other gaming forums, and I must say, it is amusing to see the same people, the exact same people, that previously predicted Microsoft's doom in the console market - before the first Xbox was even out of the gate - now turning around and openly worrying about Sony's next-gen viability. So much for armchair analysis.

I read recently that Microsoft has fared up another plant (I think that makes 4 total) to produce 360’s I think they could have the kinks worked out and running smoothly (or at lest smooth-er) by Christmas.

I say that the REAL real question is how does Nintendo gain as much ground as possible. The underdog has a possible sneek atack coming this November, and its codenamed "Revolution".

I find all the doom and gloom talk surrounding Sony and the PS3 fairly amusing. Sony's huge current userbase, 3d party support, and stranglehold on the Japanese home console market pretty much ensures that they really aren't in much trouble unless the launch gets delayed far into the future (like fall of '07, for example). The question is can Microsoft chip away enough of Sony's marketshare to threaten to displace Sony as the manufacturer with the largest user base. Microsoft certainly has the money and some killer games that could help, and personally, I hope they do gain alot of ground to make competition between the two better.

The thing is, gamers are an impatient bunch. and when it comes to a release getting pushed back, sometimes they will vie for the next best thing or eveven just somethig diffrent all together. Will this hurt Sony? most definatly! and it will help MS and Nintendo in the mean time. But it wont kill Sony. But it hurts them, pretty badly!

    NO, WE AREN'T!!!

I'd *guess* Sony will try for a Japan and US release around the same time. Bearing in mind the game industry gears up torwards xmas anyway.

Hopefully, they'll do the same for Europe.
