Hey everyone, I hope I haven't been gone long enough for everyone to forget me.

It's been an up and down year for me. More bad than good. I found out that I have kidney disease. Specifically IgA. I'll spare you the technical mumbo-jumbo and just say that 40% of the filtering units in my kidneys are damaged beyond repair.

Right now I am on medication to slow the progression. It's a wait and see if the medication helps. If it works, then great, I'll be taking it for the rest of my life. If not, then my kidneys will fail and I will need a kidney transplant. :bday

The crazy part. I felt no symptoms at all. Nothing. It was because of a urine test for a life insurance policy in September that this was first discovered. Then I've have to take a bunch of tests, including a biopsy to find out that I have had this for a while, yet it was not discovered from my last physical in 2004.

So I urge all of you to make sure that you get checked out completely the next time you go to the doctor. They don't always test for stuff like this, but they should. Especially since there are really no warning signs that something could be wrong.

Damn man. Sorry to hear about all that. I wish you the best of luck with everything. I hope it doesn't come down to the transplant.

funkatron, long time, no see. I can say from first hand experience that kidney failure is no fun, nor is it a walk in the park, being that my father has been on "the list" for almost 3 years now. Here's hoping all the best for you, and I hope to see you around more often.

Depending on how I see the whole thing, I can be very grateful, or very pissed at the insurance company. As I said, I did the test in September, and yet it wasn't until January that I found out that something was wrong. They sent me a letter in the 3rd week of January saying sorry that "I couldn't agree to their terms" and that the policy was never in force. I had no idea what the hell they were talking about. I thought everything was fine and that the policy was in place. $13 a month for life insurance sounded like a great deal. I had to call my agent to find out what the hell was going on. He also had no idea. Turns out because of the results, which they never informed me of, the $13 a month became $35 a month. Which they also never informed me of.

My doctor said that the insurance company has no moral obligation to inform you that something is wrong, unless you request the results. Because they gave me nothing, I thought the results were fine and I was in tip-top shape.

That's the frustrating part. The grateful part is that I found out before I had full kidney failure. It's really stressful for me right now. If this condition was do to some abuse or neglect on my part, then I would take some responsibility and say "I fucked up, now I have to live with the consequences." But I eat right, I exercise, I don't smoke, I even gave up drinking because I don't like how it makes me feel. There is really nothing I could have done to avoid this, and they don't really know what causes it, or what can cure it.

It sounds so cliche, but you always think "It happens to other people, not me." You are not above nature, or fate, or god, or whatever you believe. There are too many variables to consider. A man can smoke for 50 years and be as healthy as an 18 year old. Or a 16 year old girl can develop cancer because of a certain alignment of all the right conditions.

Thanks for the support, and sorry for the rambling. I'm just in a moment of reflection. It's hard to process what is happening. Is this life threatening? Not if I follow doctors orders. Is it life changing, without a doubt. Dialysis scares me the most. I don't know how I will handle that if it comes to that point.

Don't feel left out man, because I don't remember him either. But it seems like a lot of people remember him, unlike that guy in the other thread, so he must be someone of some reknown.

Then again, I ate breakfast twice this morning and only realized it when I went to wash out my cereal bowl to find a dirty cereal bowl in the sink which wasn't there last night.

:lol  I'm not mad that some people wouldn't remember me, or even know me. "Who are you?" is just a weird question to answer on a message board. How am I suppose to answer that?

Seems like so long ago...N&P just enraged people. I remember Draven unleashing his fury a time or two. Yet it was very addictive. Just like in real life I suppose.
