This movie has to be a reboot due to one key factor this itsy bitsy detail could shatter the continuity worst than the last knight....Ok MAJOR SPOILER ahead.....Here it goes

Ok you asked for it......Our very own Lord Megatron appears in the movie in his G1 form....That's right Bucket head, and Giant fusion canon ...now I wouldn't be against this except we've seen what Megatron looked like on Cybertron and theres no way he's unfrozen in the 80s

So with that....what do you guys think....

 

Ehhhh the way I see it, design choices, especially in film franchises that have spanned more than a decade, I don’t think necessarily need to adhere strictly to continuity. It’s basically a similar but smaller version of the “Why does all the modern Star Trek stuff look sooooo much more advanced than the Star Trek stuff in the 1960s!? It should look the same!” Well, that was 50 years ago, made by different artists, constrained by their time and by their budget. It’s like how some say the stories and characters and universe are the same, but the movie is like a lens to view it through. Some lenses make it look a bit different. I’d say, if Travis wants to change a look of an in continuity character, let him. I don’t see design as “shattering continuity”

Besides, the TF movies haven’t really been good with lore continuity anyways.

Eh wasn't this an old news? And I'm sure only the design change,the continuity remains the same in movieverse.

 

Though if this is the case, and Optimus also looks G1, the whole Starscream's/Blitzwing thing seems odd.

Just because it's a big silver guy with a bucket head and an arm-mounted fusion cannon doesn't necessarily mean it's Megatron - Could be Windcharger, or Hoist, or Mindwipe!

things have already been altered since he saw the movie. O_P also stated Optimus would make an in-person appearance, which was changed to just a hologram. The cut he saw also referred to the seeker as Ramjet, not Blitzwing. It was a very early cut with unfinished CGI and editing, so it's more of a rough idea rather than a concrete description of the final film.

Optimus appears twice and he said the jet was unamed, he didn't say he was referred to as Ramjet

Could be just a “slight” visual reboot, like Star Trek: Discovery

 

I don't think even Paramount knows if it's reboot, soft reboot, direct prequel, or what it is. It seems like they want to play every group along because as soon as they officially say it's a reboot or it's not a reboot it will upset fans. Perhaps upset people to the point that they will not even watch the movie in theaters. My gut feeling is they will not call it reboot or not reboot until they start marketing whatever Transformers movie they do after Bumblebee.

As to continuity, they have thrown that out the window so many times that it takes convoluted logic to even say the current films are connected by anything more than the desire to milk the franchise to death and the ego of some people connected to the movies.
