The only reason I won't likely see it midnight is because my friends won't be able to go. I could go alone, but only one movie has ever been so epic that I wanted to see it badly enough to go alone at midnight: Cloverfield:dj

But I will go opening day even if my friends can't.

I'll probably pass on midnight premiere this time, but I'll try to make time that Wednesday.

I'm not seeing it until either the week of the 4th of July or maybe the weekend after that. My niece likes to make a trip to the movies during the big family 4th of July beach trip and I've got no idea which movie she will want to see. So on the off chance ROTF is one of those films I only want to see once I'm just going to wait.

I'm not, I'm waiting a week then seeing it in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. I haven't seen a movie on opening night since Attack Of The Clones, and don't think I ever will again.

This is along the lines of what I'm planning to do. It'll likely still be crowded earlier in the day, but from my experience the day crowd has been less rowdy (ie, distracting) than the night.

are movies really that crowded in your area? I have 3 movie theaters within 5 miles of my house that have 14/16/18 theaters each. At midnight showings they simply sell tickets until the theater fills up then open another one. No lines No craziness. I have seen pretty much every movie for the past 3 years that I wanted to see on opening night, and I never had to pre-buy my ticket or show up 3 hours early...

Maybe I am just spoiled. :D

Each time my wife and I go to see a "big" movie on opening night (Spiderman, Dark Knight, Watchmen, etc), we always walk away saying "We're never going to a movie on opening night again".

I know some people are all about the "experience" (ala' "Rocky Horror Picture Show", etc), but for me? If I'm paying $25 for two tickets to see a movie in Imax, I want to enjoy it. Which means, all of the people who bring their two-year old children (who barely have any idea what a MOVIE is, much less a Transformer, and they're probably only brought along because they wouldn't/couldn't find a babysitter), and their kids are crying, whining, blah blah throughout the whole thing. This = non-enjoyment.

I'm not even factoring in the nerdgasm factor. I'm not talking about casual, longtime or hardcore fans. I'm talking UBER-nerd factor. If people in the crowd are going apesh*t, hollering clapping and cheering just because the opening credits say "presented by HASBRO", then it's a good sign that the rest of the experience is going to be just as annoying.

The straw that broke the camel's back was "Star Trek". It premiered on a Thursday night. I bought my tickets a bit earlier in the day so we could just walk right in. I was thinking "Friday night is one thing, but 10pm on a Thursday? A work day? It shouldn't be THAT bad".

It WAS that bad. The line stretched for a quarter of a block when we got there at 9:45. It wasn't a line to buy tickets, mind you. They had already bought their tickets, it was a line to GET INSIDE. Apparently there was a screw-up in the earlier showing that caused a 30 minute delay, and even though that showing was long over, they still weren't admitting anybody inside yet.

I talked to a manager, got a couple of vouchers good for any other showing and we walked away. I love Transformers, but we're going to see it on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon instead.

I won't be seeing it opening night, or even the first week. The wife's having some major reconstruction surgery on her knee that week, so if i'm not at the hospital with her, i'll be taking care of her at home.

We don't have an Imax theater anywhere close by, so I already have my midnight tickets in hand for a really great digital theater in the area.

I'm staying the Hell clear of any theatare when ROTF opens, the crowds would be staggering and I do NOT want to have to put up with obnoxous "self-proclaimed" Transformer experts were don't know jack squat between Armada Hot Shot and Movie The Fallen.

I've booked Imax tickets to see ROTF at 0:05am on the 23rd... so yeah, I'm going to the earliest session with a few friends who are die-hard Transfans.

You guys make it sound like seeing a movie on opening night is like the UN handing out water and rice to refugees in a warzone...

I know there are some small towns, but it isn't nearly as bad as some of you guys are making it.
