I'm looking to stop so I can join the world and use my money wisely again. Everytime I have money, I turn 'feral' for a new WFC/Studio Series figure in my stores and it feels like the worst low ever. I need help.

Not for any one specific thing, but I think your best bet would be therapy for shopping addicts?

The short answer is “yes”. Call your health insurance and ask if they can direct you toward a mental health provider who specializes in Compulsive Buying Disorder. They should be able to aim you in the direction of local therapists in either individual or group settings.

If formal therapy isn’t an option for you, the next time you think about buying something, just ask yourself how much you really want it. In fact, pass on it the first time or two you see it. And, think about how bad you would have felt if you had bought it. There are going to be those things you really like and want on occasion and decide to get. And that’s OK. Life is meant to be enjoyed. It sounds like you need to strike a balance, though, and right now this hobby is controlling you. Take control back.

Hmmm, I feel like a lot of people here including myself has similar issues. Mine is, I feel bad if I don’t get something I want. For me, the first step would be to steer clear of this site because there are a lot of enablers here, including myself.

Yeah, you have to be willing to give up on all the sites/social media accounts that, for lack of a better term, "enable" your toy buying habits. Don't go to toy related sites/forums, don't watch toy-related videos on youtube, don't follow toy photography accounts on Instagram, etc.

Instead of this, I would recommend not going into the store if you can (or if going for other stuff just not going to the toy section). I had a problem with compulsive buying as well and I ultimately gave my whole collection away (I'm not saying that you should do the same, most of my collection was crap).

My brother says I think over it too much. So if I think about something I want for longer than ten minutes, I just buy it. That’s helped me!

Some people can stop cold turkey but most can’t. Lots of good advice above...avoid triggers and avoid giving yourself the opportunity - that may mean visiting different sites or visiting none at all. Start selling some things including ones you have some attachment to. You’ll realize that you’re fine when they’re gone.

as for therapists, I’m sure there are special ones for this concern, but I bet you could get great assistance by many to start. The underlying urge to collect is driven by something and the buying fills a need. Working to find the driving factor and to develop skills to blunt getting your fix is key. Good luck!

Get married. That will put a halt to most toy buying.

Didn’t work for me. I stopped myself at first but when my wife told me I should do what makes me happy, I went back in harder than ever.

I think this pandemic shutdown and the impending economic depression will be a great rehab program. Will probably force many to quit cold turkey.

Just rip the band aid off and quit cold turkey! No gear, no hobby. No problem. :p

Kidding aside, you're still a young person at 25, you can outgrow or learn to manage it. If it's interfering with your aspirations in life... as others have suggested, talk to a therapist.

I did quit in 2013 because I was in a rut, and the first thing I did was just stop coming on TFW2005. Naturally, I'm weak and popped my head back in in 2017, wondered why the hell I ever quit Transformers, and by late 2018 I was back to being a full blown addict, lol!

But I'm good with where my life is now so I enjoy the hobby responsibly. :)

Good luck, for me it was finding/striving for balance in life!

"Do you really need 5 of them?"
Uh, yeah, I do. They're army builders.
"But why do you need 5?"
    You just don't understand woman.
    "You're not getting 5"
    Fine. 3. :D

Consumerism is the real problem. I just have a knack to buy new things even though I gave up on toy collecting that didn't stop me from buying blu-rays, guns, swords, motorcycles, trucks, etc... It's just part of American life to spend money, it's up to you on what you spend it on.

True but some people have a handle on it. To me, I am a collector. I collect things. If it isn’t toys, it’s something else.
