Hey folks. So I was looking at the differences of Zarak/Scorponok in the US G1 cartoon, to his toys, to the JG1 look, and wondering if their is any solid reference for the look of Scorponok as he appears in the US G1 cartoons.

    Particularly his face and chest.

In the marvel comics, he has the organge bit, in the cartoon it's usually black (less detail) but the same lines/panels are there. As he appears in the cartoon for such a short period of time, and his look is very simplified (the opening credits has a much more detailed fae) I was wondering if their is a model sheet or any kind of reference for how he is supposed to look in the US G1 cartoon, with full details and colors.

Most notabl, like the marvel comic, he has a full head/ face, where as the toy and JG1 toon has the headmaster sunken back with external clear visor look.

Hmmm, I asked Chris McFeely on Facebook and here was his response:

"The cartoon model is the same lineart as the comic's, but it does have a simpler colour scheme - check out the lovely-looking Scorponok/Technobots commercial (where the shot in the opening comes from) and you'll see that he's missing his orange chest even in that. Any other smaller detail or colour variances you can pretty much put down to Akom being crap."

Well AKOM was pretty terrible overall, so of course they couldn't keep a constant look for him. As for The Headmasters, Takara had a different direction in mind when designing their animation models, mainly toy-accuracy. That's why MegaZarak (a.k.a. Japanese Scorponok) looks the way he does.
