As we know in current years the franchise has tons of homages and references to the past TF shows including G1. However there are instances that a well known G1 character can undergo a big revamp and may be a different character eintirely. Sometimes this works and can make a character better for it if done right and able to keep a characters most important aspects in it too or it can also make it terrible by disregarding the important parts.

If there was a G1 or any other character in the past you want to be very different from before who would it be?

I'd like to see Grimlock have a Godzilla like robot mode with a tank alt mode and have an origin story similer to that of the first Godzilla film and Frankentstein while keeping his most iconic traits along with it.

 

Sideswipe, make him a Decepticon. He should be obsessed with torture and pain, and harbor a drive for revenge against the one who killed Sunstreaker. So, make him similar to Armada Wheeljack.


Make Ironhide someone who refuses to use guns. However, his methods and actions are often comparable to those of a Decepticon.

 

The Seekers would be it for me.

Starscream would be loyal to Megatron to the point he'll kill if somebody dares insult him. Think crossing BW Rampage with BW Inferno and that would be this new Starscream. Would turn into a F-22 and be a skilled fighter.

Skywarp would be the idiotic fool around others, but somebody with the urge to take out Megatron and take over for himself. Able to turn invisible at will, he'll spy on the fellow Decepticons and black mail them to help him out. Would turn into a F-117 Nighthawk and be fast for quick attacks in robot mode.

Thundercracker would be the logical member of the group and as well the only one to left the team. Gave up the Decepticon cause when he witness young children being killed by Megatron and sicken that he ever fought for him. Spent the years trying to make up for what he did. Would transform into an A-10 Warthog and be a strong rival of Starscream. Often using his smarts in battle to make the foe screw up and allowing him to win the battle.

Besides the alt modes being different, each three would also have different robot mode designs too.

 

Vortex.

Give him an Austrailian Aceentt Like the Marvel Character Pyro.

Trailbreaker-Make him the Chuck Norris of The Autobots.

Hot Spot-Make him like the Team Fortress 2 Pyro.

Swindle-Make him more like a Bushiness Man and little like Norman Osborn.

Ironhide-Just make him a Robot Andrew Jackson.

Arcee - Pretty Much like Yoko from Gurren Lagann. Strong, Independant but really sisterly (well it's not much of strech since that's Prime Arcee but i'd remove the angsty backstory)

Starscream is Megatron's protege and is learning how to become a leader himself. he has the treacherous aspect to him but he's got some nobility in him as well.

 

Starscream - Basically Armada Starscream with the Dinobot-esque "brutal yet honorable warrior" bits taken up to eleven combined with the "doubts the ruthlessness of other 'Cons" bit of Thundercracker's bio.

Override - Have her be a police car, kind of like a female version of RID Prowl.

 

I like this, but is her backstory really that angsty? Either way i'd take the Prime Arcee over the IDW Arcee one, they really drop the ball on that one.

 

I don't midn it but everyone else hates the my partners is dead thing so I'll remove it just so no one else complains about that.

also something new for revamp.

Thunderblast is a luxury convertable and has a hardtop that converts into a bazooka and she is a genius ditz.

 

This is my kind of thread. Also, I love your Grimlock idea Kaiju.

Here are just some of my current ideas.

+Wheeljack as a portly mechanic who is very self preservant and a bit grumpy.
+Arcee as a highly trained but unexperienced in real world situations cadet who is a rule follower and often quotes protocol.
+Optimus was made Prime by Magnus for his heroic actions during the war. He's stubborn, brash and horrible with fancy speeches. The council sends him on a pipe dream Lost Light like mission because they have no idea what to do with him. Note: By brash, I don't mean 'foolishly hotheaded'. Think more like Nick Fury or Gibbs from NCIS; he decided something has to be done, and he did it regardless of the council's decisions.
+The Combaticons (now without Blast Off) as soldiers of fortune brought together after a jailbreak.
+Onslaught was framed for a crime he didn't commit; he loves it when a plan comes together.
+Swindle is the face of the combaticons who deals with potential employers.
+Brawl is a big ball of anger who pities the bot that messes with him and hates vortex.
+Vortex is the insane helicoptor and bomber. Loves to turn and dive like crazy when flying.

I'd make Thundercracker and Slipstream scientists.

Skywarp would probably be an elite black ops agent.

And Starscream would be a ******.  

 

Maximo. I would change the "Liege" part of his name to something of a rank in the Cybertronian Empire, with it being the highest one. His full title is "Emperor Liege Maximo." He wouldn't truly be evil. A conqueror with a god-complex, yes, but all with a plan that he believes is for the good of everyone.

His plan to "ascend" to become a god would all be part of a plan to stop Unicron.

Primus and Unicron. I would connect both of their origins to the Vok and Quintessons. I imagine Primus starting out as a Vok supercomputer, Vector Sigma, which over time became self-aware.
Unicron would be a Quintesson attempt at copying Vector Sigma.

 

Starscream, like Armada Starscream. Tagging along under Megatron, but wanting to over through him not for personal power, but for the good of all Transformers.

Sideways. More Deadpool-ish

 

Ratchet- Make him a medic who couldn't save his best friend, and gives up doctoring to become a neutral and hunt down the decepticon who killed his friend.

 

Also, I want Bonecrusher to be loosely based on his Movieverse incarnation (Hates everyone and everything), but be a GIGANTIC MONSTER TRUCK and have the G1 Constructicon color scheme with a darker, less ugly shade of green. And also be a heel.

 

Devcon as a neutral bounty hunter, like animated lockdown, just more balanced and cold blooded, little or no emotion

 

Hmm, revamp completely? Interesting proposal. I'm all for changing things up, but I think it's easier if I list who I wouldn't want to be completely changed.

Megatron, Optimus, Starscream. Alter things here and there, but keep the core of the character, whether it's design or personality.

^These guys do it right. Identifiably Optimus, Megatron and Starscream, but they're all different in different ways. Having a cowardly Megatron, a Starscream that turns into a yellow truck or a pink motorcycle Optimus just wouldn't fly, in my opinion, so there are still certain parameters that I'd like to see those guys fall into.

As for any other character? I still don't know if I'd choose "completely revamp", but I'd definitely love to see them done differently. Check out those links above and those are pretty much all changes that I'd love to see.

Spin Out: That idea sticks out as really awesome. Granted, with that darker green, constructicon purple, a monster truck mode and Movie version's personality, He also reminds me of a hulk homage; which is cool too.

 

I've always kinda wanted to see Blurr done as a fembot. Same basic sleek design, just more fembotty. Her history could still be as a wealthy Cybertronian before the war, but one day at the races instead of just setting wagers on the outcomes with her rich chums, she decides to prove fembots can be better racers and makes a bet that she can enter and win the next race. She loses and decides to do something illegal and expensive to her spark to supercharge it and her engine to win the next race day and regain her reputation and the process goes wrong and now she can't ever turn her speed off, even in robot mode, and becomes the fastest Cybertronian alive.
