ive read this article saying that the TF fanbase is toxic and it has some good points

Transformers Fandom - Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki

But I don’t think it’s completely toxic because the are a bunch of great fans and the community has done a lot of great things like when some parents wanted to surprise their 4 year old kid who was a cancer survivor and a bunch of fans gave him a bunch of bumblebee toys and even Jeremy levy ( the voice of bumblebee in cyberverse) helped
But some fans also sent death threats to Michael bay, so I stand in the middle

    What do you guys think?

i think a wiki about "toxic fandoms and hatedoms" might attract a more... biased crowd.

toxic people are literally everywhere. toxic people are a fan of breathing oxygen, so i think that maybe, just maybe, oxygen breathers are toxic.

also, the fan base is large. "the fan base" didn't send threats to michael bay. certain fans did. we're not some singular entity. if the transformers fandom is toxic, then you, by extension, are toxic.

    What if I said yes?

Probably not a good idea because people will refute that they're not toxic as much as possible.

    well yes, but no.

there'll be people out there who claims every single new thing is RUINED FOREVER and remember when the TRUKK NOT MUNKY thing existed where fans just hated beast wars due to the fact that prime was now a friggin gorilla instead of a truck? yeah, the fandom can be awful.

but most people on the fanbase seem to be able to respect people's opinions so yeah.

I'll agree with the people who say yes and no. Sadly, some people are, but I don't think everyone is.

From my experience, at least so far, it seems to be one of the least toxic ones. I haven't really ran into much toxicity in the Transformers Fandom. I know toxicity does exist within it, but I wouldn't consider it as toxic as, let's say, the Star Wars, K-Pop, and Undertale Fandoms. Those are like Chernobyl levels of toxic. AFAIK, the Transformers Fandom has not been guilty of things those has.

Then again, I could be wrong. I'm going by both experience and what I've read and heard.

I'm not sure I really believe in "toxic fanbases". In my experience, every fanbase has good and bad members. The extreme behavior of the bad members tends to get the most attention because "Transformers fan sends Michael Bay threat" makes a better headline than "Transformer fan respectfully dislikes Optimus Prime's paint job". Despite the latter being in the vast majority. I suppose it's possible for a fanbase to have more bad members than other fanbases, but I don't really think describing an entire fanbase as "toxic" is fair. I also feel like the word "toxic" has become an overused buzzword recently. It's sort of losing it's meaning. I view a toxic fan as someone who is bullying or doing something damaging. Not just someone who has unpopular opinions or dislikes new/popular stuff. More and more, that seems to be how the word "toxic" is being used.

I've never noticed the Transformers fanbase having a higher amount of toxic fans than other fanbases. The vast majority I encounter seem pretty level-headed and the trolls and bullies seem to be in the minority. Although to be fair, I don't think I could point out any fanbase that I would consider overly toxic. I could point to fanbases that I personally find annoying, but in terms of true "toxic" behavior (bullying and trolling), those members always seem to be in the vast minority. Most people are just there to enjoy what they like.

I would argue stuff like "ruined forever" and "truck not munky" aren't toxic behaviors, per se. There's nothing inherently wrong or damaging with someone disliking the idea of gorilla Optimus or even being skeptical of new changes in the brand. Those are really just opinions. At worst they're closed-minded opinions. But I would never consider it "awful" or wrong that someone feels that way. To me it starts being toxic when they bully others for liking those things or bully the creators. I see as how someone expresses their criticism, not the criticisms themselves.

I think that any time human beings form groups, there's always a danger of getting a groupthink mentality going around. Many or most humans can think as individuals, but as groups, many, if not most, humans tend to be herd animals. Any time a large enough percentage of the population gets the same idea, they can often get angry at others not doing as they do. Human social behavior has allowed humans to become a dominant vertebrate species, but it can also result in the discouragement of new or novel or different ideas.

I think as long as a diversity of opinions are allowed and respected things can be fine. Every group has its good and bad, and this fandom is no different.

I read the whole page. I wouldn't take what they say seriously. What facts do they have to back their whole bias?

Every fandom has toxic individuals. But the fandom as a whole? Nah, I think we have one of the milder ones.

Well with anything in life if you specifically look for toxic, you'll find toxic... If you look for all the positives, you'll find positive.

TBH that article seems more toxic and whiney than 99.5% of the threads on this board. The news board can get bad but I don't go there often and not it's for the reasons in the article, and the only other out and out hating I've seen is over IDW (or occasionally FunPub) comics. There are a few people that really do not like them and really like to say so, but it never gets uncivil or "toxic" I'd say.

    Also:
We have an entire board dedicated to awesome customizations. Where the hell are these editors getting their info from?

I'm not gonna lie, there are definitely some toxic fans, but as with anything there are always those fans who are amazing. I would actually argue that there aren't that many TF fans.Big enough for TF's to always be on toy shelves. Big enough for the people who write the IDW comics to listen to what the fans have to say. Big enough for talks of new movies being made but in my opinion we're not big in comparison to Star Wars, Marvel, DC and all them. And us not being as big I would assume we are not as toxic as some of these other fandoms.

And if I'm going to compare us to a fanbase that actually is widely considered toxic, we are nothing compared to Sonic(the hedgehog)

So yeah, We're not that toxic.
