Sometimes I go without shaving. At all.
    So my beard travels down.
It hurts my feelings that people would hold it against me.
    Neckbeard... HOW TOXIC!!!

    Ya know what's funny?
I see people weighing in on this topic that I think have made discussions toxic.

What's even funnier is that others are probably saying the same thing about me.

I hear what you're coming from. Being a collector since MP-01 I can say the threads were definitely cleaner pre MP-10. MP-09 was the one that got the forums fired up due to the first time there being massive QC issue in a Masterpiece. MP-10 saw a lot of fans convert to the Masterpiece line, foregoing X # of CHUGS for one MP-10. IMO that unfortunately bred a sense of 'entitlement' amongst collectors that "For $1XX the figure better be damn PERFECT". I've been paying $1XX for Masterpieces since the beginning and even then I had no expectation that any figure is going to be perfect. Other hobbyist will even chime in saying $2XX for Hot Toys and $3XX for Macross figures are still not perfect. Lastly, and more on the extreme end, I know of $150,000 Patek Philippe wrist watches that arrive with QC issues. It really puts into perspective how much 'perfection' one can expect (be entitled to) from a $1XX-2XX plastic toy.

To be honest, collector entitlement is one of main reasons I've taken a long break from the Masterpiece threads. I drop in every once in a while and am quickly reminded again why I took a break. Nobody puts a gun to your head to buy Masterpieces so at best you can say it's not for me and move on. Unfortunately it rarely stops at 'it's not for me'. Something along the lines of 'it's not for me ... because (insert angry rant)' follows ...

Probably the latter. In either case, it's more money out of my pocket. I don't care who's racking up the price. It's $230 that's going elsewhere, not to toys.

I still think MPs are made well, even if there's a few gaffes that make me raise my eyebrows (Tracks as a whole figure, Shockwave's head not properly pegging in anywhere). Good figures or not, shit's getting expensive enough in real life. Wouldn't be surprised if I widdled my MP collection down so I'd only have Optimus and Megatron anymore, once I eventually find the latter for cheaper.

Yeah I've been here since MP-01 (which I still think is one of, if not best, toy ever). MP-9 is what made me stop collecting MPs due to the fiddiness and QC problems. Ironically 3rd party brought me back and now have ever TT mold/toon version since MP-10 on, 2x of most of them.

But post MP-9 is when I saw it ramp up, I'd say a combination of ego and entitlement.

Fans are always going to argue about something, even without 3rd party. Next would either be BW vs G1 or Hasbro vs Taktomy. Latter you see a lot of the Legends threads.

But this thread has not let me down.

I don't know if the fandom is toxic. I do know that when I came into the TFW boards, I had been frequenting action figure boards since 1998, and I had never seen such a nasty hostile environment as TFW. This was around MP Soundwave.

And while I do believe I can generally find threads in here with nice people being human being to each other, there is still stuff like this....

which I honestly think is a minority of posts, but all online discussion can get dickish, 'cause, y'know, anonymity.
It used to really throw me off, but now I find it easy to ignore, and not engage, and not respond, because what's the point? It's like arguing with a dog.

in my opinion, any and all fandom is toxic. it just depends on how much you take in and let it control....if you keep focusing on the negatives, the toxicity will win. try to focus on the positives and build up immunity.

me on the other hand.....i poison their cheeseburgers.....by that, i confuse people.....

You're the one who insulted people by calling them overly sensitive/delicate. You're invalidating them. And now you're upset someone is invalidating you? That's kind of an odd reaction. Wouldn't it make more sense to say "Yeah, that's what I'm talking about! Let's just trample on each other, invalidate each other and just disrespect one another. Let's all just do the same thing!"

I still maintain the opinion that over the history of this site the mods and the forum members have done an increasingly better job of creating a fun/friendly atmosphere. (My definition of fun/friendly mainly has to do with showing respect.) There will always be people that rub us the wrong way BUT that's different from crossing the line of disrespect.

Awesome comment (especially the bolded). I've been walking away from a lot of threads and boards not because I'm a delicate flower, but because I'm tired of standing in a sewer trying to admire a painting.

This is why when people say third party people are way worse than official only people (not as a whole for either group), I have to laugh.

To give the whole picture, that whole thread quickly went toxic by both the "Takara purists" and the "3pMasterRace" types.

And it was just a photo gallery thread!

Edit: Quotation marks added to avoid misunderstandings

That's why I said "not as a whole for either group." I've seen similar stuff going both ways and know some people hate third party, KOs, official and even the official MP while hating third party.
