Nop I collect transforming toys ressembling an 80s show no matter who stamps it, period.
Let me ask you a question, and I'll keep it all official figures here since you seem to be a fan of segregating people into smaller pockets of the fandom on the boards.
Which discussion should I talk about arms micron Leo prime? He is a prime figure but a beast wars character.
How about legends Leo convoy, same deal.
Ehobby batconvoy, should I only talk about him in titans return threads or can I also talk about him in bw threads?
What about the bw masterpieces, they're official masterpieces so clearly I can only talk about them in the masterpiece threads right?
The truth is that when partaking in a community the individuals opinion doesn't matter, it's the collective opinion that does. 3p discussion is clearly allowed on these boards, the bulk of discussion is segregated into subforums but inevitably there will be overlap, can I show pictures of my titans return hardhead in the titans return thread even though he has the nonnef ankle/feet upgrades? Wether or not you collect or even like 3p isn't what matters, it's the language and attitude you use when speaking to other fans, act like a pretentious dick and you'll get treated like one, and at that point there really isn't any reason to partake in any sort of community
So you agree that your robot toys that resemble Transformers are not in fact, in actuality, "Transformers."
Nop all my toys including Takara ones are Transforming Robot toys resembling my favourite show. I dont give a rats ass who made them. The end effect is the same.
Thank you for taking the shovel and filling the Grand Canyon I was talking about earlier.
It's about collection focus. Some accept different iterations of characters, some want figures that are actually sold as the character.
Wow. Time to bring out the rulers I guess
I have no opinion about those other sublines cause I don't collect them and I don't go into any threads about them.
I don't go into 3P threads either.
When the majority of the discussion of an official Takara MP reveal is page after page of comparisons to various knock offs and imitations, it's annoying. It defeats the purpose of what the thread is supposed to be about. Page after page of all these names that make no sense to me cause they have to call their toys ridiculous things in order not to get sued. I don't want to have to bother being an expert on which company makes what just to talk about the thrill I had when Takara revealed Megatron. There's designated places for that kind of stuff but it's spread like a virus through every facet of MP discussion.
The worst is the OFFICIAL MP ONLY Appreciation thread. Almost every picture has non MP products in there. The admins made a rule that pics have to include at least one official toy, so people photograph their fakes and then put a real one in the background to justify it. Why bother? Just post those pics in the 3P forum and follow the thread the way it was intended.
My collection has a focus. And my use of this forum has a focus too. I only read and post in threads that are supposed to be about Takara's MP products. If people are constantly talking about 3P stuff, they're derailing the discussion, not me.
If that sounds like a pretentious dick to you, then I'm a pretentious dick. But it's just common sense to me. As I said before, I wouldn't join a forum about collecting sneakers and then try to insist that the off brand shoes I got at Payless are "better" than Air Jordans and people that collect Air Jordans are just elitist snobs.
"Cause I didn't want to buy fall of cybertron Slug cause his name's Slag".
Sorry people come to my house and see my collection and don't ask are some of those official figures or not. They just enjoy the collection as a whole
I'm pretty sure as long as people have one "official" mp in the pic then they are following the rule
Sorry but this pic is all kinds of awesome because of the 3rd party figures.
Nop for a lack of a better word its a psychological issue. You cant tell me that Apollyon or insert generic Megatron isnt sold as the character. If that was the case he wouldnt have even been made. Bottom line is people with the mentality you speak of, just want to belong to an 'elite' group and feel better about something that is tottaly irrelevant, namely a stamp. Further more it holds 0 meaning when factors such actuall product quality and engineering are factored in. Especially when the one acting like that as has been proved here, dont even glance at and actually dont care to make comparisons. That goes both for 3p and original die hards.
On the other hand there are the collectors who collect what aestetically pleases them (something that nobody can argue for or against since aesthetics are completely subjective) and other collectors such as me who simply collect what looks best and has better quality after comparing all sources. Are we right every time?No but at least we wont bash you.
And there is another part which goes by pricing which is a whole league of its own.
All this excludes persons who just 'collect' in order to make a profit.
Everything about your replies comes off as hostile and arrogant, that is what makes you seem like a dick. It's fine to have a focused collection, but calling pieces of other people's collections garbage and shit is honestly just as bad as someone "forcing" you to defile your eyes with images of 3p figures
Hell where should people discuss official masterpiece figures that have 3p addons? By your logic they should be banned from official mp threads but they're also not 3p figures so the official figures shouldn't be allowed in the 3p section
There was never a FoC Slug or Slag made, though.
And again, it's about personal collection focus. Your focus is different than others, and theirs is different than someone else's and so on.
It can be to some. I'm not insulted but I find the way you express your "opinions" unnecessarily confrontational.
I think it's the generalising bit.... Generalising can be very touchy in this day and age.
They are to me.
As a fan of the fiction Despotron is Megatron.
I leave the IP stuff to the lawyers and Hasbro.
I'd rather see the toys without the fakes. If you like it that's great man. Enjoy it. But it does nothing for me.
Wait. What? I collect Transformers. 3P products are not Transformers. What does my feeling "better" have to do with anything? What do you think I feel bad about?
3P collectors are constantly attempting to force the legitimacy of their toys on to the rest of us. I think if anyone has psychological feelings of inferiority, it's them.
You call it a "stamp" but it makes all the difference in the world. I only want genuine articles in my collection. I know I'm not the only one.
You can type til your fingers bleed about how wonderful they are but that's never going to change the fact that unofficial product, whatever you want to call it, any euphemism you want, they are still bootleg product in the eyes of a collector of officially released goods.
That's how I collect. And in the threads for discussing those products, that's how I'm gonna post too.
I'm just one dork out of the thousands of dorks that congregate here daily to discuss plastic playthings. I've only been talking about collecting and making analogies about the nature of collections and collectors and the obsessions and passions it ignites.
You have countered my analogies with examples of shooting me with a gun, my body being dead, and having my teeth knocked out by an angry mob of offended toy collectors.
Just pointing that out.
The slag reference was a joke but anyways.
I'm not knocking anyone's collection at all. I love seeing everybody's transformers "official" or not.
If I were to "upgrade" an official mp ironhide with the nonnef kit that moves the hipskirts behind his back where should I post according to you? The figure is no longer official because it has a 3p kit on it, but the figure isn't 3p because it's an official mp
What??? That's a real stretch, and rather insulting in itself.
The 'stamp' is totally relevant if official is your focus.
And, at least for me, being in an 'elite group' was never once my goal in only collecting official MP's. Even suggesting that belittles a collector's personal focus.
Separate names with a comma.
