I think Prime is a bit too quick to doom both races.

In the first movie Prime wants to die with the cube in his chest. Okay that's fine but since Starscream took out the air cover who was going to stop Megatron from flying off to get repairs then coming back to pick off the remaining Autobots when he felt like it?

By the second movie we wouldn't have a Prime to stop the Fallen so not only did Prime doom Cybertron in the first movie but his death would have doomed the humans as well in the second movie.

It seems like Sam is the real hero is all of this since he stops Prime from his horrible plan in the first movie and he's willing to give up Bumblebee's protection to get to Prime in second movie so that Bumblebee can keep his parents safe. Plus Sam is one of the few characters who plan does not involve a lot of killing.

That's exactly how I look at it. Sam comes through and saves the day time and time again, yet there is a strong concensus on the boards where people do not want him in the movies at all...Strange.

    Wow, that is so deep.

Wish they'd at least touched on that in the movie in a way that was meaningful enough that audiences would have picked up on it.

On one hand it would've been nice to get depth like that. On the other, if we did, then we'd have even more people confused thinking the Decepticons are somehow the good guys trying to save their race (when really, their idea of saving their race is killing off any other living things that could get in the way, up to and including large quantities of their own race who simply don't agree with them).
And yeah, just one human life... oh, along with the total extinction of the entire species and all other species as they then use the info from Sam's brain to blow up the sun.

And part of the question is, does Prime think the Cybertronian race is even worth saving compared to the humans. We may be bad, but we never killed our planet in a war started because half of us were xenophobes who wanted to kill all other forms of life to protect ourselves.

once the sun was blown up, we'd all die. so Prime was very right when he said "you'll never stop at one"

and besides is it truely fair to destroy an innocent race that had no fault in the cause of the dying out of a race just to save the dying race ?

I don't know if the United States and the Soviet Union had ever starting shooting nukes at each other we would have taken out not just humanity but a lot of other spices with us. Considering human will build weapons of mass destruction over ideological and political differences I don't we can claim to be a much better race.

It is totally. Come on cant we waste one human? I mean there are 6 billion of us on the planet and there are 20 babies born almost every second. And personally, I wouldn't mind dying for the Decepticon cause

Keyword 'if'. If we had stated shooting nukes at each other. But we didn't. The cybertronians are WMDs and they did destroy their world over political and ideological differences. We managed to step back from the destruction of a world. They didn't. And Prime witnessed that first hand.

It's possible that Prime is a misanthrope. Maybe he really does think his own race deserves to die out.

In fairness to Megatron it's all The Fallen's fault. Megs may have been brutal before, but he wouldn't have gone after the Allspark or tried to destroy the sun. You do see at least a little of his personality come out in ROTF which is something I really enjoyed. He even seemed to genuinely be devastated when The Fallen died, like he'd lost someone he greatly admired. Though the comic adaptation does it entirely differently with Megatron realizing he'd been manipulated all along and leaving The Fallen to be killed by Prime.

Optimus saw through Megatron's bullcrap. Megatron SAYS Sam will lead them to a new Energon source, he fails to mention that source will drain the sun and kill all life on Earth when it is through.

"There is another source of Energon. The boy can lead us to it" is a great line. Although Defiance points to Megatron acting to save his race's future and is in a way doing the right thing, we must also not forget that this is Megatron. He's one evil mo'fo' who wants to take away our sun. This would kill us all. Funny how he forgot to mention that.

Prime can be criticised for sympathising with the humans too much and being a bit flippant with the future of his race, but at the end of the day he is trying to save lives and stop the ultimately evil force that are the Decepticons.
