I was just in Kmart and found the wreckers for $15 each (half price here). I liked the look of some and almost bought them. In the end it seemed deluxe class is just not where my collection is at now. Hasbro has some good voyagers and then there are the MP cars and of course most 3rd party are bigger.

There was a time when deluxe was the core of my collecting but now I realize I can do without it. I think we are getting older and spending more to get bigger and better. Does anyone else think this is happening?

Nah. Deluxes are still my bread and butter. I can justify a Deluxe even if I only 'kinda' like it - Voyager, it has to be one I really want.

Deluxes are the core. Voyagers are the bulkier bits that surround it and Legends make up the little spaces in between.

Since the increase in MP figures made and downsizing of deluxes I can't really justify getting them anymore - well, maybe Arcee.... plus half the time the later waves just don't show up here anyway.

Nope, still going strong and still the main part of the line. I do think they are a touch overpriced (should be 12 to 13 dollars at the moment, in my opinion) but I understand WHY they are that price. More to the fact, with Hasbro using the deluxe line to introduce people to everything they've ever done, from beast wars to IDW to the movie to g1, it is the gateway drug of the line.

I thought Deluxes and Voyagers go hand in hand...

Well the Wreckers have been out of most stores in the US since so they are more than likely clearancing them to get rid of them to make room.

There are tons more deluxe out and the shelves are still full of movie deluxes.

Movie deluxes? Yeah, they're struggling to even be as good as the 07 or DOTM era deluxes.

Generations? They've been consistently knocking it out of the park with deluxes.

I'm not sure how your lack of interest in the deluxe size means deluxes are dead but yeah, sure, whatever.

    Agreed.

Deluxes are "alive", but not "well"... Collectors have been steadily moving away from them because of their ever growing poor quality VS the price retail chains are asking.

If quality were to ever rise to "match" the current asking price, I'm more then certain that sales would take off again.

Also, I hate to break this to you, but they are dead since they don't breathe or have brain function.

And I love to break this to you: They are neither alive nor dead since they are inanimate objects. dead/alive doesn't apply.

Careful with being pedantic, someone might just come in and be worse than you.

    Not fun, is it?

Deluxes still seem to be really knocking it out in the Generations line, and even though I am sticking to only the Dinobots for AoE the others look quite good as well.

Sadly I am jealous of you finding the wreckers, thanks to Beast Hunters Prime I never saw that wave here. Would have liked to get them.

Well, deluxes are still the core of my collection and I like them a lot. I don't collect MP though.

It's less about size and more about price point. $10 and under is a good impulse buy. Deluxe isn't dead, but I do buy less of them now that the price has gone up.

Deluxes are mostly what I go for. Nowadays I only get Voyagers and Leaders if they're of characters I like or give a damn about, which is why I have no desire to get Generations Sandstorm, Doubledealer, Whirl, Roadbuster or Brainstorm (I don't read MTMTE, leave me be!). A Voyager-scale Ratchet, Optimus Primal or Ironhide on the other hand I'd grab in a heartbeat.
