In what looks like a last ditch plea for help, this even from the trailer seems to depict megatron being approached by Lennox in the desert, where it appears he lives a lone wolf style lifestyle if the trailer is anything to go by, where he proceeds to deliberately miss killing him with his blow....is this indication that only megatron has the power to stop what's happening and they all must join forces possibly rescuing Optimus along the way....

 

I think it'll be more like the enemy of my enemy is my friend situation. No doubt Megatron's going to have resentment with helping out the ones that foiled his schemes in the past but he needs to be smart enough to know that this is something that's going to affect him and his army too if he doesn't help out as well.

 

Having seen the movie 7 months early, I can confirm that yes, he is the hero.

 

For Megatron to fly in, rescue BB and utterly dominate a purple eyed Prime would be awesome.

I think it's likely, and it certainly would be a way to make Megatron relevant, without having him undo his own plans (assuming purple eyed Optimus isn't his doing). I would love to see Megatron be the only hope for defeating an evil Optimus, especially after their rivalry has been downplayed for so long. However, I don't know if he'll actually be on his own, considering he seems to be leading that group of 'Cons in that explosion. The fact that Bee is fighting Barricade later shows that the 'Cons won't be spending the whole film teamed up with the 'Bots.

Yes I have to be honest megatron saving the day as an anti hero would be awesome, however you just know that the moment he succeeded he would try and make everyone his subjects.

 

I'm wondering more and more if this will be the scenario. It reminds me of the exchange between Megatron and Ratchet in TFP near the end when he is trying to get Ratchet to help restore Cybertron and Ratchet says something like "even if we restored our planet you'd just try to conquer it again." and megatron replied "of course I would, but we'd have a planet worth fighting for."

that kind of reasoning would work with Megatron.

 

A heroic character, definitely, but not a hero.

Think Magneto in X2, where the X-Men needed his help to stop a common foe. He helped out, then turned the situation to his advantage.

All these predictions we're making now will be undone when we remember how basic plots are in these movies.

 

Or maybe he'll pull a DOTM megatron and run in behind Optimus as he's about to stab Bee again and completely disown him like He did to Sentinel. Who knows, I could see them doing a lot with Megatron and Optimus' relationship in this film.

I could buy, at most, pragmatic alliance to stop the bigger threat. Quote the bot himself: "I do this only for the benefit of my Decepticons. It grieves me that you may also profit."

Treating him as both heroic AND the hero after four movies of utterly one-note villainy is going to leave a bad taste in the mouth.

 

Sadly yes, I believe he'll be needed to help a cause.

Not necessarily. It could also be "Re consider your heroes" as in, perhaps this guy is a hero and you never really realized it before. You are rethinking who could be your hero/idol. Thus that applies to everyone.
