So...messaged a few known vendors about Maketoys earlier today and the rumors that they are "dead." I specifically asked about their last 2 coneheads.

Heard back from one Asian vendor already (not giving name because I didn't ask permission too but he has a legitimate site many here have used) just a bit ago. Take it however you want to but this is what a known good vendor responded back- could be smoke, but may not be. Not sure how it would benefit him to lie about it:

"I have sent them a message, if I hear something from them , I will let you know."

Then about 5 hours later:

"They will still release them but they will be delay. They will keep moving."

 

But some guy on the internet said that they were dead because their website was briefly down during a global pandemic. Who am I supposed to believe???

 

So they said they are alive.

I believe it when I see their products.

Company alive but not releasing products = alive?

 

Their last release was in January. I don’t know if you’ve seen the news lately, but there’s a bit of a situation going on that’s causing issues for some companies.

 

"Maketoys is dead! Their website even went down!"

Website comes back up.

"That's not proof that they're still around!"

Gets word from Maketoys that they're still working on the other coneheads but that they're delayed.

"Sure, they say they're still around, but unless they actually release something I won't believe it! BTW, the thing they just released a month or two ago doesn't count!"

I swear, it's like some people want Maketoys to be dead.

 

You know why this topic comes up every now and then since 2017, don't you?

Sure, a repaint. That's good. I will continue to wait.

 

You shouldn’t let it bother you, it’s just the society we’ve become. Everyone believes they are always right despite evidence to the contrary. People just keep moving the goalpost in the hopes that eventually something breaks their way so they can say, “I told you so”.

Is Maketoys dead? Probably not. Is Maketoys thriving? Probably not. Will 3rd party be better if they fail. No.

I have no inside information and I could totally be wrong. As a fan of their work, I hope they survive.

Once again, I am dumbfounded as to why so many people are so adamant that MT is already pushing up daisies. It certainly looked at some point that MT was unlikely to produce anything more. And even now, with the website up, there’s no guarantee anything more is forthcoming. I’m sticking to my current attitude: not holding my breath for any more CD figures. But why bother claiming definitively that MT is six feet under? What’s the point of adamantly denying the possibility that there might be a pulse? Do you have some stake in people giving them up? If you think they’re done, why not just ignore the thread? Arguing repeatedly that you KNOW they’ve passed on and must convince everyone of the same seems strange and obsessive.

 

Don't mention daisies. It triggers a snowflake.  

 

If they put Highbrow up for crowdfunding it'd be the first I'd ever back. I'd go the same route with Brainstorm too if that's what it'd take.

 

Put this in the right thread already but apparently there is a Downbeat repaint up for preorder... not dead yet

They have the MT 2nd run on Guardia up for preorders too...if I wasnt so close to completing TFC version I would order it. Although I am thinking maybe the MT version scales better...it definitely looks better combined. And individual bots. Alt modes are a little lacking in comparison though.

 

Some guy in Facebook named Akira Sun, who claims to be affiliated with Make Toys in some fashion, says they're still alive and kicking, that everything has obviously been delayed due to Covid-19, but that they're still planning on releasing everything they've revealed (meaning the last two coneheads and the other two Autobot headmasters) by the end of 2020. FWIW.

I'll believe it when I see it.
