Is it any wonder they don’t know where to focus?
There’s zero clarity from their audience as to which should be their priority.

And why is that? Because they experimented too long. If they committed to one line, the audience would be focused on that one line, and the rest would leave elsewhere. They tried to bring in too many different audiences instead of focusing on one.

You know, the goofy thing is that MMC's been happily committed to two separate lines this whole time - ReFormatted and Ocular Max. MT did futz around a bit longer, but they had a pretty clear direction: Cross Dimension and Re:Master.

I think the problem is that MT's production schedule was too long. Also, their secondary line, while cool, didn't have the same support as MMC's because of the IDW base - CD stuff was more or less floating on its own merit which while admirable probably didn't give it as much oomph as the Reformatted line. Also, MT did not copy MMC's practice of endlessly repainting or engaging in minor retools, meaning they didn't get quite as much mileage out of their molds.

    Just my observation and thoughts.

MMC is a lot easier to at least identify what they do. G1 and IDW. Maketoys...... hm... lets see, G1 seekers and headmasters, stylized city bots, some sort of combiners that aren't really G1, some sort of other stylized primes and jetfire, power core compatible bots at some point, and then a random Cybertron Starscream. (I'm sure I missed a few) but yeah, its a lot harder to pinpoint wtf their focus is, given they start a line, abandon it, start again, and then abandon it, and so on. I love their products, but they need to focus.

If MT had kept pace with everyone else, their Seekers, Coneheads, and Headmasters would have been completed by now and probably a few more CD figures would be out as well. We'd all have gotten more of what we wanted.

MMC, despite their routine ~2-month delays and some debatable choices, continues to deliver products. While the Autobot cassettes seem to be pushed back and that's unfortunate, overall they are still putting out Ocular Max products and Reformatted products.

Some companies can manage that though. If you counted out how many different pies Keith has his fingers in we’d all be amazed. And ToyWorld, while not exactly a business model to emulate, have stuff from all over the reservation.
Maketoys just don’t seem to have the gumption to do even one line well. Their MP stuff is hit and miss, their CD stuff seems to appeal to some but is pretty disjointed, there’s a bunch of other stuff there from IDW to Chug. FT are close to being the definitive G1 MP, XTB is their only real 3P competition in the larger picture. Multiple companies are duking it out in Legends scale and most are pretty damn good. MMC have IDW all but wrapped up. Bayformer stuff seems to be anyone’s game but those who are serious about it are giving it their all.
Maketoys just don’t really seem to really want it. I always ranked them alongside BadCube. They did some good stuff but they simply weren’t reliable and long term they lacked any future. BC are defunct as far as we know. Maketoys are having a few last gasps with their Coneheads, but even with those they don’t seem to be really pushing it. They could have had the 3P seeker scene locked up. Rainmakers, Coneheads... but they seem to lack the will.

I was hoping for something new and refreshing from MT like their CD Galvatron.

It's funny that one of my favourites companies, TCF is still doing well, I am quite fan of their stuff.

I am still waiting for Silverback :( ... If MT Horrorcons won't make it I will buy a third set of the KFC ones.

So this popped up on Facebook. Appears to have a modified head sculpt, albeit slightly.

MT's principles also have had their fingers in other pies. Their attention has been elsewhere, that's why the MT brand of their TF-related products, has suffered. And I wouldn't put Keith up as a model of success at it, given XTB's continued struggles with material quality/durability even as recently as their Dragstrip, and even design/production issues with the likes of Gravestone.
Always curious how many and which ones someone thinks that is. Because they're usually wrong. :)
