Hello ,i have a question ,since Optimus Prime return in final episode in season 3,is Hot Rod Autobot 2nd in command if the season 4 continue and is he second in command in Japanese Headmaster since Optimus Prime pass the Matrix to him again when Optimus Prime died again.
Is Ultra Magnus get back his 2nd in command position in Season 4 and Headmaster and Hot Rod under his command or he position further relegated if Hot Rod become 2nd in command .
Ultra Magnus was under Hot Rod command when Hot Rod become Rodimus Prime at the end in the movie and in season 3 ,am i right?
Who held the 2nd in command position in season 4 and at the beginning of the Headmaster ,Hot Rod or Ultra Magnus?

    Thanks.

I think he's capable to be in charge of a squad or an outpost.

    Based on visual evidence:
-Blaster was in charge of the Autobots stationed at Metroplex.
-Pipes was in charge of a small squad at The Ark.
-Ultra Magnus was in charge of Autobot City (in the movie).

With the experience that he's had since inheriting the Matrix up until The Hate Plague crisis, he is capable. Even without the wisdom from the Matrix, and title of "Autobot Leader". Sure he acts like a "kid" and has fun "like a kid", but when needed, I'm sure he's capable of stepping up when called upon.

Unfortunately, Season 4 was cut short. But I think it showed a tiny bit in the Rebirth Series.

If it was up to me, Jazz and Blaster would be in charge of the Earth bound Autobots outside of Autobot City, due to their love of our (or at least North American) culture. Ultra Magnus goes back to be in charge of Autobot City/Metroplex. Hot Rod in charge of another city or outpost or station that's not on Earth, perhaps the moon or Mars.

Pretty much everything we see in "The Rebirth" implies Magnus is Optimus's second. He's the one Prime confers with, tells his plans to, he's the one ordering the Autobots into battle in the city, and he's the one left to carry on the fight on Cybertron when Prime leaves to follow Hot Rod.

There isn't much time given the idea in "The Headmasters", but Ultra Magnus's role there is definitively that of "City Commander" - leader of the Autobots stationed on Earth. Japan was very big on giving Magnus this role, as it was in accordance with this tech specs, even though the US cartoon had assigned the role of Autobot City commander to Blaster.

Well given that the second Prime dies again in Headmasters Hot Rod reclaims de facto leadership status and becomes Prime again with no question, I'm guessing that yeah, he's just been sidelined.

    Season 4 is anyone's guess.

I'd say it alternated between Rodimus and Magnus.

I mean it was never 100% clear that in G1 Season 1 and 2 that either Ironhide, Jazz and Prowl alternated as the 2nd in command.

    Maybe Optimus can't pick favorites?

Magnus is also the one who single-handedly almost loses the entire Cybertronian War for the second time in the space of a couple years. Wake up, Optimus, and stop relying on this guy.

    ?? ??

Brainstorm was never leader of anything. Rodimus Prime was leader of the Autobots after Optimus died, and then passed leadership off to Fortresss when he decided to leave.

Although, right after I corrected you like a douche, I realized I had called Convoy "Optimus" in my post.

    So never mind.

He must be Brainstorm as second-in-command.

The way I see it, like Metroplex said,

    - Blaster & Jazz in charge of the Autobots stationed in Metroplex (After movie)
    - Ultra Magnus in charge of Autobot City (Movie)
    - Rodimus Prime Autobot Leader (Before Optimus Prime
    - Hot Rod in charge of an sub group and an outpost
    - Ultra Magnus second in command (After Optimus Prime's return)
    - Kup in charge of entertaining his fellow Autobots with his war stories (Sorry I had to put it in)
    - Optimus Prime Leader of the Autobots
    - Springer charge of weaponry
    - Arcee, Daniel's guardian
    - Grimlock and the Dinobots, Optimus Prime's or Rodimus Prime's bodyguard

I am sorry, but this doesn't even make sense. Springer in charge of weaponry? When was Springer good with weapons, unless you are referring him as Wrecker, but as I can see you are referring G1, I don't see Springer as weapon specialist.

The impression that I get when watching Rebirth is that Hot Rod was not second in command. Ultra Magnus is who I feel most appeared to be Optimus's second in command. Hot Rod/Rodimus was my favorite character though. So even after I got the Powermaster Optimus Prime toy as a child, I would still pretend that Rodimus was the leader, and I made Powermaster Optimus second in command.

Part of the thing is that Rodimus seemed like he never liked being a leader and was always torn between being "Legendary" and "Other Dude."
I went back and watched The Burden Hardest to Bare and The Rebirth after the Other Rodimus thread today and reading some of the posts there.

It feels like Rodimus is trying to be a kid again becaue he doesn't like being a Leader as is kinda directionless.

In Headmasters, Prime dies 3 episodes into the series and Rodimus resumes command with the Matrix. However half a dozen episodes later, Cybertron gets trashed up beyond all repair, so Rodimus takes Blurr and Kup to go find/found a new Cybertron (with blackjack and hookers.) He leaves the Matrix-less Autobot forces under the control of Fortress just because his toy is the new hotness.

No matter how you cut it, Rodimus was definitely given the shaft in the original series.

No, Chromedome is clearly the top guy of the regular four Headmasters in the Headmasters cartoon. Brainstorm was a science guy, not a leader guy.

Yes, but there were no Wreckers in Sunbow's G1 cartoon.
