I'm trying to put together a display of the military themed HFTD and RTS bots that represent the crossovers between classics and the movie-verse, so I'm thinking Lugnut, Bludgeon, Hailstorm, and Terradive for the Decepticons. For the Autobots, we have Tomahawk, Breacher, Deep Dive, and Sea Spray. Now, I think that Warpath makes a pretty good partner for Sea Spray, but I'm afraid he looks a bit too much like a Classics figure to really fit in with my crossovers-verse. His face lacks the human-like features of a lot of the Classics faces, and the H-tank is a departure from G1, but the bot mode is pretty blocky... Alright, this started out as a facetious version of the common "Is Sea Spray / Lugnut Classics or Movie-verse?" debate, but I'm actually starting to like the idea of putting these bots together in a parallel display/continuity in my personal universe. It does seem to be another answer to the question of where do you put a bot that doesn't completely fit aesthetically with either classics or movie figures.
I just put my Warpath next to Seaspray and Spacecase and Terradive. He does not match the look exactly but it works. Also tried him next to Lugnut and it will really work especially the more classic looking ones like Seaspray and Lugnut.
Generations Warpath has a certain aesthetic to him that makes him look like some sort of Marvel toy or something to me. I think he can fit in different aesthetics quite nicely.
If you're putting Warpath in your RTS/HTFD display, are you also putting Jazz, Tracks, Wreck-Gar, Perceptor and Windcharger? Seeing as Warpath is GENERATIONS not RTS and the aforementioned ARE RTS....
To be fair, many of the new molds used for RtS were effectively just Classics-styled figures sold along with a scant few redecoed movie figures. I mean, Tracks was redecoed into Wheeljack, a Generations figure, for example. Personally, I think Warpath would work for a hybridized movie/classics display. He's got enough detail for the movie asthetic, yet looks distinctively G1 enough to be classics. If you have no problem putting Bludgeon on that dividing line, then Warpath should work out just fine.
Hailstorm's the odd one out. The rest all share the same aestetic. With that said, Warpath is undeniably Classics. Do as you wish.
Actually, Wheeljack was made first, Tracks just came out first oddly. Back to the topic at hand, just do what you feel is right.
Wheeljack was the Pitch then Hasbro asked if they could make it into something else between the two of them they cam up with Tracks and worked out a design that was suitable for both... that they both have wings originally does not hurt either.
I don't think it would be out of place. Sometimes, if a toy seems out of place to me, I just make a place for it by itself. I did this with MP Grimlock, and I'll do this with MP Rodimus. I ended up making a Grimlock shelf with some other Grimlock figures. Sometimes, I end up putting figures by my computer just to enjoy them for a bit by themselves. I hope that helps some!
Thanks for all the great responses. I really love the new trend of the hybrid (I like that better than crossovers) designs that represent the best of both worlds of the movie and classics aesthetics, imho. I forgot about Brawn and Fallback, I'll have to track those down, thanks! Cybertronian mode Razorbeast?
