Ok so I'm no fan of MP-45 and there's a heap of reasons for that, that I won't bore you with (again!). However looking at the photos in the Masterpiece appreciation thread, and the various Bumblebee threads I think I've put my finger on something that explains why I can't get on with him while others love the cute little tike... Some of you guys think of G1 Bumblebee as a child.

He appears to be perceived as a toddler or baby even by some, a cute little kid that the 'older' Autobots can pick up and cuddle. I've really never seen him that way. In my mind's eye he's young and relatable to kids and (in the show) Human's in general... but he's not an infant, he doesn't need to take a nap or have his nappy changed. He's a competent and skilled 'young adult' as far as in concerned and by the time we get to '86 he's just one of the 'guys'. I'm guessing that has a lot to do with the differences in depiction between (some of) the cartoon and the toy bios and comics. So what do you guys think? Relative to a human how mature do you think he is?

This is not an MP-45 bashing thread. I know loads of you guys love the little guy and that's great. I'm just interested in what I see as a disconnect in his depiction and therefore the fan perception of him. There's no wrong or right answer!

He's a Hobbit. He's a little person. He has dwarfism. He's no less competent or intelligent than his larger comrades but he retains a childlike innocence that endears him. Add to that his bright yellow coloring, his outgoing, wisecracking personality, his insecurity over his stature... we're not all short, and most of us are not very cute. But many of us are insecure about some aspect of ourselves that we conceal with jokes, or bravery, and we identify with Bumblebee's coping mechanisms. We are him, and he is us.

Well wheelie and sari from animated are transformer kids. Hot rod is a teen. Kup is a old man. Bumblebee is----Not sure. He sounds kind of adult like but hangs our with teens in arcades. Is he a teen? Have they ever said how old bumblebee is?

Well actual age is irrelevant seeing as @MetalStorm points out he's a robot/alien. I'm more feeling to his relative age to human maturity. I agree he's 'older' than Wheelie for sure. Which is why all these photos of MP-44 swinging MP-45 around like a baby are so wierd to me.

Teenager/Young adult. In transformers years they're both probably the human equivalent. Bee bonds with a 17 year old on earth who literally hang out together. More importantly his tech spec mentions how much he idolizes the bigger bots and wants to prove he can help. That sounds like someone who is pretty young and naive.

How is Hot Rod a teen? How is Kup an old man?

Sure some are older than others but they dont go through the phases of life like we do, Transformers don't go through puberty. Some just have more life experience than others.

They don't go though any phases...they are not real. Hot rod is portrayed as a young punk, and Kup as an old-timer.. don't get hung up on comparing then to humans. Again I'm just asking about the maturity of the character and how he fits in with/is views by the rest of the G1 cast.

I never thought of him as anything younger than in his 20's (in human years). He's a young small but very heroic Autobot not a toddler to my eye.

I've always seen Bumblebee as either a teenager or a young adult.

How is kup not a old man. He is even called one in the uk comics and "kups story" was all about his old age.

Hot rod is a teen hands down. In his mind if nothing else. Kup even calls him a "young punk" in the movie.

Nope. But Wheelie is a child in some continuities. The way Holi and the other young rescue bots from Victory sound and act, I think they’re children too. The five young rescue bots are so kids.

You are absolutely correct. He and the others are robots. However they can be built and program to look and act like a baby, child or adult. Even in real life we have robots that were design to look like a child and program to act like a child.

He is probably just the bubbly guy of the crew, and is a young adult, maybe 19-20 vorns/cycles/transformer years.
But we like him as a baby better.

Send that foul creature back from whence it came this minute!

    I say he's a young adult with a happy-go-lucky attitude. :)

If you watch the Key to Vector Sigma, Optimus has only a small amount of knowledge about Vector Sigma, it seems to me that Bumblebee maybe lost his memory (rather than be created) just before the Autobots boarded the Ark which crash-landed on Earth.

I was never really able to see any transformers as younger than young adult (yeah not even Wheelie) mostly because of the war theme I guess.
Though I guess is up to you, we never really get a definitive "this is a adult, this is a child" just a less mature more mature character.
