I've read a ton of stuff about fixing yellowed sections of a TF, and I've read some contradictory stuff too. I was wondering, what's the deal with this? Is it possible? Does it last? If so....what's the best way? Thanks!
it's easy, brush on some gel put in bag and bring in later in the day, it can last for years, if yellowing returns just repeat
It depends on various factors, turning yellowed parts back into white seems simple enough, but some non-white plastic pieces are nearly impossible to restore.
Thanks Brr-icy. What gel is this you speak of? ...what should I be placing it in that will allow covering, but also allow sunlight?
Not sure which exact one he's referring to (haven't restored stuff) but it's probably something that uses hydrogen peroxide.
hmmm, I'll try researching it. What if I just place the parts in a small puddle of Hydrogen Peroxide and cover it? I heard the fumes will do the same. Truth to this?
This video shows how to remove the yellow on Star Wars figures, but for TF's, you'd need to use a much bigger jar (or a bucket) in addition to worrying about any stickers.
I had a restored Jetfire. Yellow returned after a few years despite no contacts with sunlight and little light of any kind. Got rid of it rather than trying to retreat it so don't know how well it works the second time from my own experience.
Thought I'd bump my own thread with results: HOLY FRIGIN' SCIENCE!!?!?!?!?! It's amazing what a little Science will do in this hobby; truly. The short of it is this: - Started with 2 badly yellowed G1 Fort Max ramps. - Brushed on a bunch of 20 Standard Lift Developer. *the strongest gel/cream that Harmon Warehouse carried* (a beauty store here in NJ) - Placed them in zip lock bags. - Placed them in a plastic bucket with a 50 watt reptile UVA lamp pointing down over it for about 5 hours. - Just checked them, and they are about 90% whitened. Crazy! Will repeat again tomorrow for a full 100% Thanks Science.
