I kind of love this. The design and proportions are Obari as fuck.

 

I've read/seen some videos with MP Saber not doing so well - a little lose here and there, and then yeah - the whole added weight of Simba. I'm guessing that's what the KFC ratchet set was for?

 

I'm glad to see from the renders, the cruiser mode looks much cleaner than those earlier grey prototypes. It's also cool that they are trying to integrate Victory Leo more into the combination. It looks like like the cleaned up the sculpt a bit. The hands look less gangly and the elbow joints look more streamlined.

 

Yes, they did an add on set to give him better knee and hip ratchets and a longer sword.
It is pretty much a must if you add on Simba.

I have the KFC ratchet kit and it holds up fine. I actually had to take out the hip ratchets since they were too strong and were stressing the hips of the figure. Combined he's just such a huge, cumbersome figure that articulating him with that giant backpack is near impossible. He can strike a pose, but it takes a ton of work. On top of that, the base figure's articulation just isn't great to start with, so adding Simba amplifies Star Saber's problems. Still a beautiful figure that I'm glad I have, but this guy looks like he might be better all around.

 

Two things on that note. First, this looks like the designers have a Cross Dimensions-esque sort of posability and dynamic look going for it (which, to me, is a good thing despite my opinion of the effect this has on the alt mode). I'm just bringing this up because of your mentioning the difficulty of posing MP Star Saber.

Second, I think it has to be a difficult feat to design a figure that has to bear an extra back pack (like Star Saber or any post G1 God Ginrai toy on the market) that can strike dynamic poses, hold the weight of an extra figure above the waist and then still have all that range of motion while maintaining stability.

 

Will this top Flame Toys Star Saber? Lets hope

I really like the finish on him. Kind of poorly posed but it shows a lot of range with the shoulders and hands, knees as well. Also it seems like they’ve said Victory Leo will be IR-02, which is cool.

 

Yeah they teased it already during the SGC2020
