Going back over my customs I realized I've done various versions of Ironhide about 6 times before! Still not quite right but I feel I'm getting closer. Lately I was inspired by Alex Milne's art in Transformers Robots in Disguise and wanted to homage it here. Started as a T30 Roadbuster and added a chest from an old Ironhide custom (which in turn I think came from an old McDonald's Ratchet) EDIT 3/7: I think he's complete now except for the Autobot symbol. And maybe some glow effects like in the comics.
Nice! Interesting idea to use Roadbuster. It's kinda ironic actually, considering energon Ironhide was supposed to be Roadbuster. The alt mode pretty much nails the IDW look.
Thanks! I added more sculpt to the head this morning. Still waiting for it to cure before paint, but here's another WIP shot. Also added a group shot w/ Optimus and Kup for better picture composition.
Works surprisingly well with the Roadbuster mold. As for the head, I just think the helmet is too thin in proportion to his face, and I think you could add some more lines to his face. Still, great job!
Yeah, I heard that energon Ironhide was originally planned to be Roadbuster, but they scrapped in for the more popular name. Am I remembering incorrectly?
Another WIP shot, closeup on the head after some more sculpting. Ugh. The enlarged photo really brings out the need for more cleanup, but I think the shape/size is going in the right direction.
Cool. I did one a couple years ago using that same Roadbuster. Although I bought a head from another member that he made to fit that sized figure and repainted the whole thing.
Energon Ironhide's Japanese name was Roadbuster. That's about all there is to it. However later on for Takara's Cloud line, they gave T30 Roadbuster a deco homaging Energon Ironhide
