I realized that in almost every continuity Ironhide gets shot and gets killed off, TF:TM, DOTM, IDW, TFA. Why does this happen? I mean do the writers don't like Ironhide at all? To me Ironhide is the most coolest Autobot after Prime. Any thoughts?
Not quite sure how "gets shit" comes into play, but... G1 - Prominent character, gets killed off in TT:TM. RID - Recurring character, survives. TFA - Relatively minor character, doesn't do a heck of a lot. Bayformers - Supporting robot character, gets killed in third film. WFC/FOC - ??? (Not sure what his arc is in the games) IDW - ??? (Not sure about this one...) So, roughly six major, separate appearances, with only two of them ending in death (to my knowledge). Yeah, he does seem to get some bad luck, but I highly doubt it's because the writers "hate" him. He's the resident bruiser in a lot of pieces of fiction, and they're quite often the go-to character to kill off.
I'm pretty sure TFA didn't die; he and his team just got beaten by team Charr. In the Allspark Almanac, it was said he would have appeared on earth in the hypothetical season 4. Can't speak for IDW, but look at the situations for G1 and DotM for your answer. Both are the resident tough as nails characters of their teams, yet both don't put up much of a fight in their final hours. In their respective movies, both's deaths serve as a critical point that the villian is a serious threat and things are going to get worse before they get better (Autobot city and Chicago. In conclusion; it wasn't because the writers hate him, it was because both times, the writers wanted to make the villian look good (evil; good at being evil? well; you know what I mean) and nothing does that faster than having him kill off the tough guy.
But it is kind of ridiculous that, in the G1 fiction, he is supposed to have have a superstrong body (skin), hence his name, Ironhide. He's practically the Luke Cage of the Transformers. And yet we keep getting him taken down with relative ease I won't count Bayformers because that's a different version. The TFA version didn't die.
Well, I feel that all of the times Ironhide have died, it was to add seriousness to the series. That way they show how much of a threat the Cons are at that point in time
One day I'm going to burn TV Tropes' server to the ground. And all other posts in this thread cover the topic.
To me... IronHide is the best Transformer ever built/made, he's my absolute favorite. As far as him being killed in most continuities... some were necessary... and some were really handled wrong. TF: DOTM (it was needed to establish Sentinels betrayal & how far he'd go to see his evil plans succeed), TF: The Movie '86 (this was done poorly, i will always luv this film but to kill 4 major Autobots (Prowl, Brawn, Ratchet & IronHide) in the first 10 minutes of the movie without them taking out any Decepticons during the battle was completely WRONG!!!) An IDW comics though, i feel he's handled beautifully... especially in (All Hail Megatron & IronHide #1-4). In the first issue of IronHide, he's killed taking a shot meant for Optimus (necessary, Him being his bodyguard/security an all)... but before that, he takes out Soundwave, Ravage & Rumble for ambushing Prime. Rumble really catching the blunt of things! So all in all, i don't think the writers have any issues with IronHide's character... he tends to shine alot, him dying often is just part of his programming (Bodyguard/Security). Face it, everybody knows to get to Prime... you've gotta go through Hide.
It also gives hasbro the opportunity to replace the character, and add a new TOY! Seriously, though, I think ironhide is a cool character, and he is often killed off for device purposes, when you look at it. It has little to do with how much the producers like the character or not, but more to do with character itself being expendable for plot reasons.
