What do you get when The Man in the Iron Mask brings in Chinese wuxia warriors, a trip to the Glorious People's Democratic, and casts Arnold as a prison guard and Jackie Chan as his charge? Something odd and curious.

Jackie Chan is right, this does look stupid. :D  At least it's not taking itself seriously in any way.

I was ready to cry foul that the Man in the Iron Mask wasn't supposed to be in the Tower of London and then we ended up in Moscow, and after that the dragons appeared and I realised any objection would be in vain. This looks gloriously stupid and fun.

I almost feel like this movie is complaint proof.

"It doesn't follow anything resembling the book" "No duh."
"This looks beyond stupid!" "No duh."
"I don't think there's a lot of quality to be found here." "No duh."
"It's just a pandering movie for China." "Yes, because the Chinese really wanted to see Schwarzenegger as a British officer." :p

It's like they took the adage about Trolling a troll and used that as the mantra to make a motion picture.

I can't see it working at all. And I kind of want to see it.

This movie does not have my interest at all but I can see why people might be interested in this one.

I think the film needed a bigger budget if it wanted to do better stuff with what they're trying to do with the visual effects.

    Naysayers.

This is going to be better than Dr Dolittle and the Cats.

Twyin Lannister is in this too. Neat. I do dig the poster. Reminds me of those classic cheesy 80's heroic action movie posters. The distinct lack of floating heads is a plus from a graphic design standpoint.

Heh, guess that counts as a reunion for Schwarzenegger & Dance since The Last Action Hero.

Also when trying to find out more info about this thing, guess it was originally titled Viy 2: The Mystery of Dragon Seal before getting changed Journey to China: The Mystery of Iron Mask - originally slated for a 2019 release - and now it's just The Iron Mask with this delayed release date. Interesting, I guess.

Anyway, here's the original poster for it for anyone that cares...

Okay they should probably have stuck with “The mystery of the Dragon Seal” since that’s probably a more descriptive title but fuck it I’ve got Arnold, Jackie, Charles and Jason in a movie with dragons and martial arts. I’ll give it a crack.

So, uh... has nobody pointed out yet that this is actually a Russian movie, and is apparently conceived as a sequel to VIY (2014, aka Forbidden Kingdom, ie: NOT the Jackie Chan Monkey King movie), which was itself an inflated remake of a classic Soviet era movie based on a Nikolai Gogol ghost story?

In other words, this movie has an even more bizarre, nonsensical pedigree than it first appears.

Also, pretty much guaranteed, Arnold and Jackie are not in this movie for more than 10 minutes... basically one scene. This trailer is basically pushing them based on guest appearances - my guess is that they will have a fight scene which enables the actual hero of the movie to escape from prison, and that will be the last we see of them. :lol

Well, no. Since most of the trailer takes place in China, the promotional material we've seen has been Chinese and it has a Chinese majority cast I guess we just made some assumptions. I am still very fascinated to see this sucker when it releases to Netflix.

Actually, the Chinese content is not that huge. The director and most of the cast are Russian, plus it's billed as a sequel to VIY and features the same (British) main character. The Jackie / Arnie scenes are set in Britain. There seems to be a substantial portion of the film that takes place in Russia. And then the plot moves gradually to a conclusion in China. Structurally, it's sort of a globe-trotting colonial adventure.

I suspect this thing will be a trainwreck, but at least some of the scenes / images look sort of cool, so it may be worth a Netflix viewing like you say... :thumb
