The files to print Lugnut are now available for purchase in my Etsy page here: 3D Printed Transformers Lugnut Print Files READ DESCRIPTION | Etsy Final Update (11/02/2020): Complete at last, after a year of work Lugnut is finally complete. I'm really happy with how he has come out, and have even started work on some friends for him. See the comments for a more extensive gallery. All the I do hope to reprint him in darker colour in the near future, but for now I consider this project finally over Update #5 (02/02/2020): long hiatus because I was working on my animated prime project. Lugnut is finally getting printed, I've revised some of the mechanics using the knowledge I've gained from newer CAD projects so he should both be able to scale down to legends size and have nice sturdy joints. This prototype successfully transforms, though I do need to revise the ankle engineering as its pretty unstable at the second. I have also bought a darker filament to better suit the character for the final version. More images can be seen in the comments Update #4 (11/07/2019): Finally completed the first draft of Lugnut and I am having him printed this week. Will probably adapt him a little in the future, might work on a way to slide the wings back. Either way, I'm happy with how he has come out so far. I'm also considering not scaling him down to IF size, detailing him up and calling him a siege Lugnut Update #3 (14/06/2019): Finally an update (stupid life always getting in the way of things). So these latest images may not look significantly different to the previous ones, but crucially this robot and vehicle are now FULLY TRANSFORMABLE. The mechanics of the legs got really complex towards the end, but I've pulled it all together and he actually works now. All that is left to do is a heavy detail wash over the surfaces to give it the iron factory finish. I'm getting there The only slight tweak left for this mechanically is the booster on the tail will be extended and then the transformation will need 1 extra step to accommodate this as right now they are a bit wimpy. I also thought extending the midriff would balance out the proportions, but I think I was wrong there and so I will be shortening it again before detailing Update #2: Okay, that all took a little longer than I planned but I now have the mechanics of the arms about 80% done and I am blocking out the legs. The transformation mechanics of the legs have been worked out, I just need to pin down the style. Ill be folding the shoulder wings up further and potentially extending the thighs a little, though I do feel the oversized forearms are pretty in character. I tried to design the forearms as engines, but the bombs work so much better visually. But anyway, 1 step closer. Should have the arms complete tomorrow and will get on with the legs. Update #1.5: Exam over, shattered but able to do a little bit today. Plan to do a decent few hours on him tomorrow to sort out arm transformation and start the legs. I also think Ill stylize the wings a little more and make the tail-fin bigger. Update #1: Mostly worked on the mechanics this evening. The waist assembly now swings down and the pec windows and head now have fully functional transformation mechanics. I have resized the shoulders and will add a bicep to link the forearm and vent shoulder things. Tomorrow my goal is to have the arm transformation mechanics completed, then unfortunately Ill have to put him on hold till Thursday after my next exam. But here, have a taste of how he is coming along. I have blocked out the leg transformation so all that's left is to design the parts, get all the joints to line up and then surface detailing, so probably no more than like 20-30 hours... it's all good fun though and the amazing response you guys gave me has got me really motivated! Original post: I decided the world needed more lug-nut in it, and so I figured I would make this guy before I commit my next few months to my war within devastator project. So far I have most of the vehicle, some of the robot and about 40% of the transformation sorted, but I have the whole process blocked out in my head. He will be roughly the size of Iron Factory Jetfire and as bulky as their upcoming DJD members, with the aim being for him to fit well with the aesthetic. I hope to have a roughly transformable 3D model finished by around late next week. I will then print a preliminary transformation test, and if that works Ill finish detailing him so that he can properly blend in with real Iron Factory Figures. My goal is to have him completely finished by early June. Let me know what you think of him so far, and if you have any ideas on improving the aesthetics I'm all ears.
I honestly have no idea who lugnut is or even what continuity he's from but it's looking pretty good so far.
Cheers man, he is a character that was created for animated and was great fun but sadly he hasn't been used since
I always loved Lugnut from Animated and wish a G1 Masterpiece version would be made someday. This is looking really cool. Will keep my eyes on this thread.
Updated with a quick test print of the head. I may need to scale it down otherwise it'll be voyager size
I'll be watching this. Just today I was looking at last episode of TFA (Endgame), and plan to watch both parts over the weekend.
Love lugnut, and love the project; will definitely be keeping an eye on this! Also, any chance that the model might work in more than one size? Can't wait to see more!
Waffel at this point you should just apply for a job at Hasbro or any 3rd party company you wouldn’t even need a degree or anything they’d hire you on the spot!
Didn't realise he was going to be IF scaled! If you decide on producing some when you've got him sorted I'll happily take one! Beautiful stuff as always.
thank's for all the positive feedback guys, you've got me all motivated to get this guy done as fast as I can. Scale is just a percentage slider on the screen, I can make him whatever size I like once he is done To be entirely honest this is kinda all practice for that. My end goal is to at some point in the future is to hopefully get a design produced, but I'm a a long way from that I feel Thanks man, I may try to sell a few if I can get him finished to a good standard but I don't know how expensive he could end up being. The scale was partly to save on materials, but mostly because I love the IF aesthetic
I would totally buy a 13 inch version of this figure. He would scale perfectly with my Masterpiece figures since 13 inches would be just a little taller than Megatron.
