I just got an Ipod nano 4GB, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good hacks for it. I'd like to make it act as a true external HD and maybe add some games, plus other stuff.
I don't actually own an Ipod, bit I heard you could install DOOM on it, and use the Ipod interface to play it. I'm sure most of the stuff o hack your Ipod is freeware, and a trip to google would probably turn some of them up. For instance here... http://ipodlinux.org/Doom Having had a look though most games are choice adventure games and other crappy games. I thought the ipod gaming scene was supposed to be thriving.
While on the subject, is there a program to download songs FROM your ipod to a PC? I want to transfer my songs to a new PC.....
Idoom sounds intresting but i am not sure if i wanna muck around with my video's core OS/firmware sure i have done it with my microsoft G router and my e815 but like my pod the way it is tho the whole media protection schem it uses is annoying.
Anapod manager will allow you to transfer off your ipod. There are others out there too. I have my 5G Ipod set up so that I don't need to use iTunes at all if I don't want to. I can also plug my ipod into any computer and run a player directly from it and play music without anything going on the computer. http://www.ipodhacks.com/ The forums at this site are informative.
To use the ipod as an HD is as simple as opening iTunes and going to the preferences and selecting iPod. From there turning on disk usage. As simple as that.
Thanks, this sounds like what I want to hear, as I hate iTunes. How else does it allow you to put songs on it? Drag and drop would be the best for me.
On one hand I want to get the songs from my iPod to a computer, especially since my friend's Dad just deleted all the music from thier comp because he had some crazy idea that another 30 GB of free HD space would speed it up, and I had already got some of his music backup up onto my iPod that he had deleted from his smaller one. Which, BTW, is completely legal here in Canada, not grey area at all. On the other hand there is no way I'm voiding this warranty. I spent a huge ammount of money on my 60 GB iPod Video.
None of the programs I use void your warranty. There is no trace of them on the iPod if you delete the program itself. It doesn't make changes to firmware at all. If I had mine with me I'd share the names of the other things I use. One allows me to rip Cds straight to the iPod and drop into the songlist. I'll post them later when it's back home.
Are you 100% sure that they don't void the warranty? Has your iPod ever broken? Until I meet someone whos modded iPod has broken I can't quite trust any of them. How much space do these programs take up?
The Ipod is not modded in any way shape or form. Not they way I've done it. They are simply very small apps (biggest one is like 512Kb) that are ran directly from it. Apple allows the ipod to be used as a HDD and that's all your doing.
