I have a little issue with my iPhone 8. I had a tempered glass on my screen as a protection. So since I noticed that there was a small crack on the right side, I figured ok there’s a crack on my screen protection and once I removed it, I noticed that the crack is indeed on my screen. Now, my 2 year contract finishes in October, now I’m faced with options.

Option 1- have my phone screen repaired and replaced.

Option 2- wait it out until my contract finishes and get a new phone.

I don’t have any experience with phone repair shops that fix phone screens. Will the new screen be the quality as my old screen?

    P.s: I don’t have AppleCare

    Thanks

You can look up a nearby phone repair shop, and they should be able to examine the damage and tell you their cost of repair. It would be a lot cheaper than going and having someone at an Apple store fix it.

The quality would be fine. Normal people can fix cracked phone screens, if they know what they're doing. Just look at the store's ratings/reviews. And they should have a warranty, in case something goes wrong.

Once you find out the price of repair, you can better decide if it's worth it or not... is the crack that bad, do you want a new phone in October?

I would think repair would be plenty cheaper than replacement...unless you are in the market for a new phone anyway. I’ve replaced several screens on my own on various phones and have found the replacement screens to be of acceptable quality (the differences between the original and the replacements have been barely noticeable, if at all). It can be a bit of a pain in the ass depending on the phone design, though. Check YouTube videos for the screen replacement procedure for your specific phone for some insights. I’ve typically gotten my replacement parts from eBay (just be sure to read the seller’s feedback).

I do not, unfortunately. I believe the last screen I bought was from a seller in Louisville, KY, of all places. Search eBay for a replacement screen for your phone and see what pops up. Try to go with a domestic retailer with plenty of recent positive feedback. The only iPhone I’ve repaired was done using a “URepair” brand kit. It came with everything I needed. Not sure if they are still around, though.

Edit: Check Amazon as well...lots of replacement parts and kits on there.

DIY phone repair isn’t for everybody. Go to YouTube and look for a video that shows you how to replace the screen on the specific model of phone you have. Watch the whole thing a couple times. You’ll have to decide whether or not you feel comfortable performing that same kind of surgery on your own. Also take note of the tools and supplies the person uses in the video. You’ll have to have the same kind of stuff yourself. Some screen replacements are really easy...and some are a pain in the ass. It all depends on the phone you have. Just pay attention and take your time. Take pictures along the way to help you remember how things need to go back together again (that information should also be covered in the video).

If your phone turns back on afterward, then you'll know you did it at least mostly correct. Lol. Don't be afraid to give it a shot, but, if you're iffy on it, just take it to a repair shop. I did a quick search, and a local "UbreakIFix" store will replace iPhone 8 screens starting at $85. Alternatively, I did a quick search on Amazon, and they have iPhone 8 screen replacement kits for around $29.
