I finally decided to upgrade the head on my D Compose custom back from 2014...thread here. I did my best with a MOTU Battle Bones head back then, but someone commented it looked like a demonic Snoopy lol...couldn't un-see that. So...enter Jurassic World Hybrid Rampage Indominus Rex. Finally a hard plastic dino head fitting of the ultimate horror.

I filed off the nose horn, attached a neck, and used Spawn Violator parts to fill in the back of the skull and vertebrae. The gaps were filled in and sculpted.. Painted with airbrush, GameWorkshop paints and washed, and dry brushed.

D Compose is part of an ongoing project to upgrade the Inhumanoids figure line. Here are my other entries so far:
    Metlar
    Tendril
    D Compose V1
Earth Corps Liquidator, Auger, Herc, & Dr. Bright
    Blackthorn Shore
    Granok and Granite Warrior
    Diorama Base
    Magnakor

A significant upgrade. Now, if Netflix would just take the hint...

Pretty cool. I think the dino head helps to evoke the cartoon version of D.Compose, though... as a kid, I felt that the toon depiction of D.Compose really simplified the inherent horror of the original toy's design. He wasn't just a yellow, bumpy-skinned guy with a white alligator head. He was a giant, humanoid heap of entrails, bone, and rotting meat... topped with a hideous, glaring horse-skull (!!). That's pretty strong stuff for kids!

So while the work is really good here (and it improves on the earlier version) it still feels a little bit like the dinosaur head is kind of a 'soft' rendition of how scary and gross D.Compose could (or should) be.

He's horrific. But he could be even worse! :lol

I don't know how you make his head any grosser without using like, an actual literal animal skull... and that gets into some very weird ethical issues.

It's true... monster-friendly realistic articulated toy animal-skulls are probably not common items. Still, I wouldn't start hunting the backyard for squirrels to decapitate just yet...

I think it makes the difference between looking like a living predator, and looking like an embodiment of unnatural death. Which really just depends on your approach to the character. :thumb

    Awesome update!

I can just imagine me playing around with this one, putting a figure inside his rib cage and then letting tons of MOTU green "slime" ooze out of it.

I agree and have obviously looking for candidate head upgrades for years. And will keep looking for V3!

I think the main issue is that the toy skull doesn’t really represent a specific animal: a horse/cow with fangs?? A bird with teeth? A Kaiju scale lame dinosaur? A narrow croc skull with a pony tail? A snake with molars?

plus the cartoon also didn’t look like anything specific or even a skull. Like you say, kind of a whiny white fleshy croc with snake fangs...

As a kid, think I just assumed it was some kind of zombie Dino/Godzilla head.

Yeah, I always assumed it was a horse skull with fangs, but it's probably more of a generic "animal skull" composite.

    Creepy, though. :)
