When was the most recent release of this figure? I wonder how long it takes for the yellowing to occur, on average.

 

This works under the assumption that all these IT-01s used the same batch of flexible plastic (it looks like the yellow parts are all vinyl). Since it looks like the yellowing is even happening on areas normally concealed from light, I'm inclined to think it's some kind of slow chemical reaction in some batches of plastic. Heat might kick it off, certainly, or it's just luck of the draw.

 

Slight correction to your statement.

The assumption would be that IT used the same FORMULATION not batch of plastic in the manufacture of this toy.

As stated, because there were toys that were shielded from UV light, the photonic catylization route appears not to be the primary mode of degradation.

Additional factors are definitely in play.

 

Sigh, I too decided to cancel my pre-order and ShowZ returned my deposit in points. I'll wait until Takara 3.0, THF reissue or if people confirm that IT next batch is not yellowing. It's so hard to get a solid g1 mp Megs today lol

OMP has him marked as pre-order/reissue but with no date. I asked them if they know more because I already have experience with them and waiting months for a pre-order that "when it comes it comes". Trusted store tho

 

If we are still on yellowing (yellowing will forever be associated with IT-01...  )...

This is my most heavily yellowed figure:



It has yellowed slightly more over the years (it has been almost 20 years, after all), but it became this yellow after 'baking' 24/7 under my office fluorescent lights for a couple of months.

(When I saw this -- I put the plane on top of a shelf, so I didn't see the top -- I couldn't believe I was 'tanning' in office 8 hours a day.)

Underneath used to be perfectly white, but it has yellowed over the years.



Can still see some whitish spots.  

 

Is this an automatic process or will I have to ask? I just cancelled my preorder but my points total is the same right now

 

Perhaps use the "contact" button? I always do that and they do the "Cancel and refund points" on their own   although they're on vacation now

 

For what it's worth, mine has barely any signs of yellowing - you have to really look and it probably wouldn't be noticable even then if the parts weren't right next to painted unyellowed parts. I live in Utah Valley which is high elevation and low humidity and it's been in a detolf (so not air tight or dust free) in an air conditioned basement under an Ikea dioder and the room has LED lightbulbs. There is a window near the detolf with the shades closed so it gets a bit of very indirect sunlight but not much.

 

Still no signs on mine. I got the original (2 cannon), and it has been in open air, near sea level. I keep my apartment at 72 degrees F, but do not control humidity.

 

I'll never have to worry about yellowing on my IT-01 if ShowZ keeps delaying the reissue forever!

 

@Bakarina well it isn't really showz but BMB...they are so spread out across all their brands and of course the constant re-issues. But they do keep them coming.
Who knows, you might get a copy that is pre-yellowed  

 

Fair enough. But I wish BMB could just give the vendors a date and stick with it. It's really crazy how over a year later the eta keeps getting bumped up everytime it nears.

 

Over the last year China has been dealing with a virus that has been negatively affecting work outputs and transport.

 

ShowZ is still showing an October ETA. Hopefully, that means it's close.

I've sat on the preorder for over a year, true. But the preorder has been up for two. This listing has been up since before covid was a thing.

 

My IT Megatron has the yellowing on certain parts issue, which is a shame, because everything else is great on it.

I'm going to attempt to paint the parts, since they're relatively small parts. Does anybody have a recommended color match for the paint?
