Not sure how many folks here have heard of this game, but it's awesome! Here's the gist: You are plopped down into a blocky, randomly generated world filled with lakes, oceans, mountains, beaches, forests, and caves! Every time you start a new world you get something new! And once you're there, you...can do whatever you want! The main focus is on mining and building. Almost every substance in the game world can be broken down. Materials can be combined to create new things, like weapons and armor and tools or new kinds of blocks. You can even make minecarts and track systems to ride around on! Lurking in caves and appearing at night are monsters too, which you'll have to fend off if you want to survive! Building a shelter will protect you from harm. The game is made by a single man, "Notch", and is updated at least a couple times a week, with super special updates every Friday. The game's basic "survival" and "creative" modes are both free to try, but are terribly outdated. The newest, most up-to-date "Alpha" build can be played by purchasing the game for a mere 10 pounds (about 12 or 13 USD.) You can play the game yourself right here: Minecraft Notch's personal development blog is here: The Word of Notch And a handy wiki with all the information you'll need about the game is here: Minepedia - The Minecraft Wiki! I've been playing for a few months now, with a paid account, and absolutely love it. Right now Notch's biggest project is true multiplayer for the massive Alpha mode, which will be infinitely fun. All indications show it will be ready for initial playtesting for the public within the coming weeks. This game is awesome, and has started to get some real attention, even as far as appearing on Valve's TF2 blog and the front page of Kotaku!
