A shame because not only are you correct in that it would make for a great basis for Megs, Energon Starscream is just a really awesome and underrated form of the character deserving of an update. (and if the leaks/rumours of a Cybertron Starscream are true, the only version of UT Starscream not in Legacy)

It's probably my most wanted version of Starscream and I'd like it in Skywarp and Thundercracker colors as well. It's just a good seeker design with a modern alt mode.

So this guy looks... good. Pretty good all around honestly. I have my quams with him and his weapons but overall I am pleased with what I see. Can his forearms be covered? I see a picture like that the other day.

the Energon Starscream mold was one of the best molds of that time period and ABSOLUTELY deserves an update, preferably voyager or better for budget reasons.

The base mold was so good you only need to add ankle tilt and wrists and you’re pretty set

give me all the repaints, maybe even some Cyberjets out of it

If the answer to that question isn't all twelve figures, the answer is wrong.

Having said that, I'd love to see some Euro G1.5 dudes instead or first. Those colors are just so wild. I want that representation in my collection too. Far overdue. Skyquake and Snare would be a great early pair for how loud their contrast is. Whoever gets made, I'm there for it though. I'm ready to retire some of the Botcon figures that never really represented themselves well.

One flaw that nobody ever speaks of with the Energon Starscream mold is its horrible bicep clearance. You can only employ the bicep articulation when the upper arms are posed at 45 degree intervals relative to the shoulder pad. In any other position, the bicep cut is partially blocked by the shoulder pad to some degree and cannot rotate.

might be unpopular, but if they do an energon starscream, I'd want him to be a tall deluxe or small voyager, its the only way you can do cyberjets, predators, or other remolds from him and still have them somewhat scale with leader skyquake. Plus Energon Starscream in the show isn't very tall.

I'm gonna correct you a bit here, because you actually can't rotate the biceps at 45 degrees. You have to have the arms pointing straight down, as moving them out at all will slide the biceps into the shoulder pads where they're entirely flush and immobile.

So the arm articulation is even worse than you describe. That said, the figure is small enough that this isn't a horrible gimp. It can still pose quite well, but you are right in that the articulation could use an update.

My only concern is that an update would not have the gorgeously elaborate paint deco the original had, or the cool green translucent plastic to simulate his incomplete state. (or he'd have so much of it that it threatened the toy's structural stability)

It would likely only have EITHER good paint OR translucent plastic

but I’m hoping it gets an SS86 hot rod level execution. Sacrifice “height” for better engineering, or in this case, paint and clear green plastic

can we talk about how it’s criminal Hasbro hasn’t updated G2 Dreadwing/Smokescreen in two decades? It’s far and away my favorite mold from g2, it still holds up today. The bomber mode is better than most flying characters we get even in 2022

all the 3P Have whiffed on the opportunity as well

But it won't have the minigun missiles, so why bother

I'd go for 3P at this point, love my Starscream and BB to death.

I'd be fine with dropping the translucent plastic personally, or do the translucent version but also do the 2nd version that was G1 deco in non translucent plastic.

Screw it, give them both heads. Original MW was all reused/redecoed molds anyway, so redecoing the appropriate WfC/Legacy molds that already exist, or as they become available, into new MW toys should be budget-friendly enough to include both heads, similar to what they did with Ransack, Skywasp, and toy deco Scorponok in that Buzzworthy Creatures Collide set.

Yeah, I don't have the figure available in-hand at the moment, so indeed, much worse than I remembered.

I think people often forget about that limitation because the particular design of the shoulders still allows some primitive "butterfly" motion to offset it, and because the articulation is otherwise entirely to standard. (or I suppose even above standard for early UT) Plus his weapons are so massive you hardly notice the arms holding them. :lol

I would definitely find an Energon Starscream update without the translucent plastic to be a poor update, myself. It's not just arbitrary on that toy, it's part of the character showing his incomplete revival. It goes hand-in-hand with the patchwork details sculpted and painted on and why the heavily G1-inspired redeco never did it for me.

I fully endorse this idea. All the MW molds being repurposed from G1.5/2 has always taken away a bit from the personality of the characters, but I get the nostalgia angle. For the 4 mold doubles, they could even package one with a toyetic head and one with a reimagination (but include both).

    Probably eventually since it’s Optimus.
