What? No love for the 70's?  

 

The 70s started 50 years ago.

I have an older half-sister who turned 40 a few months back.

Everything from 1979 are now at least 40 years old.

 

I'm 46 right now. I still remember some of the seventies with fondness, but the eighties is where I really started to feel like an individual person with goals and passions and hopes.

Sometimes those years seem like they just happened. Sometimes they feel like twelve lifetimes ago.

I think about the changes I've lived through, then I look at the changes my grandparents lived through. From horses on the farm to huge tractors and implements. From simple open-air cars to these luxurious autos we see now. And from computers being theoretical to huge rooms full of vacuum tubes to little hand-held machines that can outperform those huge rooms full of vacuum tubes from then to the internet. Watching grandpa's face the first time he looked up weather and crop reports online was amazing.

Just think what we have yet to see in the future.

 

Is it weird that most movies I watch are older than me? Hell most of them are 30 years old XD

 

^ And many of us have watched The Wizard of Oz at some point, and that movie came out before my parents were born.

I wonder of there will be a 30th anniversary of the 1990 movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Released in March.

 

Wasn't it less revisionist history and more they wanted something that would pop like crazy in the then new technicolour and decided that ruby was the way to go? Or were there two sets of shoes? I never got to read the novel.

 

And 1960 will be equally as far away from us now as it was far away from 1900

And boy that sure kind of puts a lot of things in perspective.

 

IIRC in the novel the shoes are actually silver. Don't recall where I learned that but it checks out in a quick google search. Apparently it has something to do with some kind of silver movement in the 1890s.

Wait just one goddamn minute here - you guys are telling me that as time goes on, things in the past continue to get older?!?

Right, darn it, I crossed my wires. It was silver. And it was meant to be a statement on what they were considering at the time for paper money backing. While we hear a lot about the potential of the "gold standard," we rarely hear much about the "silver standard" which was a movement attempting to make sure paper money was backed by real value. When they made the movie they dropped that bit of symbolism in order to make the colors go *BOOM*.

 

I can never watch this movie again. Not after losing my Chihuahua mix. Also "Fluke" and "Marley and Me"

It is a great movie and it is also sad that actors Burt Reynolds, Dom Deluise passed away and Judith Barsi (Charlie, Itchy and Ann-Marie) murdered.

Here is something from the year 2000 (no, not the 2000s), the PlayStation 2 will be 20 years old this year.

 

Calling what happened to Judith Barsi ‘passing away’ is like calling a bullet through the heart a cardiac arrest.

 

I know she was murdered by her father, I just didn't want to use word murdered.
