When many TF fans hear the name, they think of the Constructicon combiner that forms the "ULTIMATE WEAPON". That's what we assumed we were going to get in the movie, instead we got a giant excavation tool...wait...that makes sense... Let's be realistic (excluding the idea of transforming robot-like alien species) shouldn't the combined form of a bunch of construction workers make an even bigger construction (well...demolition) worker/force? I personally would've liked to have seen Devastator fight more, but it actually makes sense that he was just meant for a renovation of sorts. Now if we want a fighting weapon of mass destruction, I'd say we should hope for Bruticus. Fighting is what the COMBATICONS are meant for. Thoughts? Comments? Opposing viewpoints? Donations?
Devastator was a giant monster that just sorta stomped around and broke things until he was hit once and fell apart. He was pretty cool in the movie too.
dev was cool in the film but "died" to easily.... i mean come on a big huge monster bot gets hit with a fake railgun weapon and he dies...i mean they could have atleast had him call back apart into ether bots or vehicles like the cartoon. i dunno dev could have been way more bad ass then he was bay just decided not to go that way. kinda why i dont want any other combiners in the films. unles unless there gonna fight each other and night die so fast.
Since Micheal Bay is a director known not only for action but also a pursuit of wanting to do things bigger than any other director I was expecting a lot more out of Devastator. I think having him in the trailers also had me expecting more. Just felt like Devastator should have been involved with some crazy destruction, huge action and the cause a load of explosions before someone like Prime, Bumblebee, or Ironhide did something insanely brave to stop him or at least make him fall back into his individual components.
I like how the Constructicons were workers/laborers as opposed to straight-up killer troops. Call me crazy, but I think they could easily have them as the star 'Cons (with maybe Soundwave and/or Starscream pulling their strings), without the Fallen, and Megatron's revival being the cliffhanger ending.
I felt like they sorta blew the whole concept of how Devs was portrayed. I'm almost positive they had one shot at giving us Devs, and that's all we got, a dumb, slow moving brute. Even the CGI art fooled me into believing he as going to be fast. sigh...
Funny, I didn't get the idea at all that they were mindless laborers. I mean, yes, they did put Megs back together at the bottom of the Laurentian Abyss, but beyond that, they just felt like soldiers. We see them hunting down Sam, trading fire with Epps and co., and holding Sam's parents hostage. I wish it had been established that the Constructicons helped build the giant, pyramid-shaped sun-destroyer at the start of the movie.
personally devestator just felt out of place in that desert setting. I would have rather of had the cancelled TM2 Huge villian Tidalwave in ROTF instead of devestator. that ocean battle in ROTF just made sense to have tidalwave in it.
Actually, that's a real experimental weapon. It fires a slug at several times the speed of sound using electromagnets. It'd do some pretty Bay-esque damage even to a giant alien robot. And having them fall apart like in the cartoon would be pretty... I don't know, unrealistic? I realize that this is a movie about giant alien robots that can take the shape of vehicles and other machines, but if anything, Bay's made them pretty damned realistic for what they are. Oh, and the scene with Devastator transforming (that's right, it was Devastator, not Mixmaster and company combining; they were the ones fighting in the ruins) was totally awesome.
Devastator was a huge waste of potential, but his transformation scene was REALLY cool. It shows how far our CGI technology has come.
