so i got Uncharted: Drakes Fortune in the mail today.. Bought it off ebay for like $25 [good price]

put the game in and im playin it but it has a couple hiccups on the way. standing around waiting for Sully to do his part for a minute or two so i can continue on

    pretty lame

it happens like twice. waiting for him to light the stinkin fires

eventually it gets passed that and i get to a part where i can only assume its trying to play an in-game cinematic. the screen goes black and i can pause it and it says "skip movie" and all that but nothing does anything

k...starting to get a little more annoyed

so eventually i have to restart it a couple times cuz it still wont move on

Now i put the disc in and the PS3 reads it and knows its Uncharted...all that. I try to boot up the game and i get a black screen. nothing happens. Game never loads. The disc is fine. Looks brand new. No smudges, fingerprints, or scratches either

what the crap is goin on?
everyone is all ravin about how awesome the game is but i'm starting to hate it just cuz its not wanting to play
*edit* and yes. other games work on it. i tested Infamous and it plays

Sounds like a bad disc. My copy of the movie Serenity was defective and froze at a point; funny thing was that it worked fine on other PS3s. I got another copy of the movie and the new copy works fine. Funny thing was that the defective copy looked fine, no scratches or anything.

Is it possible for you to rent another copy of Uncharted? If it does that on another copy it is most likely a bug or a problem with your system.

yeah. other games still play just fine. i notice that if i put my ear real close to the PS3 i can hear like a faint clicking noise. doesnt make that sound for any other game. think im gonna have to rent a copy and see if it does it too..

sucky. was really wantin to play this all day

Did the disc have fine cracks in the centre, Josh? I had a Motorstorm disc crack, I got it replaced, then the replacement disc cracked. I never replaced that one though, at that point I had got bored with the Motorstorm online race "quitters".

That faint clicking sound is probably the lazer/lens mechanism quickly repositioning everytime it has a read error.

Most likely just a bad disk. If a huge sector on the thing was burned bad when it was manufactured, or whatever they do when they make them, then that sounds exactly like how a perfectly functioning piece of hardware would handle it.

I'm glad you were able to get the game working. It's really a fantastic game.

    Ebay:
I had the same thing happen with my first copy of Little Big Planet (to date the ONLY game I have bought twice). The crack was barely noticeable at first, but the disc would never read.

i checked for a crack cuz my Lost Planet game got a crack in the center like that and wouldnt read. that was like the first thing i looked for :p

but yeah. i really dont see any reason why it wouldnt be working other than something musta happened when the disc was made or somethin weird like that.

    ah well
