Considering how G1 cartoon focused the mainline has become, this would be the best chance/method to get the superior Blaster head.

I'm pretty sure Hasbro reps said that now that they have modern versions of the old gimmicks, they'd retain them going forward. The Headmasters in Earthrise retained the Titanmaster gimmick, I'd imagine the Combiners would get the same treatment.

 

Unless you consider War for Cybertron a reset. The engineering between the Prime Wars and War For Cybertron is day and night. At least aesthetically.

 

Except Prime Wars gimmicks were retained after the "reset" of WFC. WFC released a few combiner limbs (just retools of potp molds but they still count) and retained the Titans Return headmaster gimmick where appropriate. Hasbro has even recently reissued the core 7 headmasters from Titans Returns

I consider WFCT a reset in so much as the Hasbro reps state. Scale, quality, legacy gimmick retention and cartoon accuracy. And as I pointed out, the Headmaster gimmick was retained.

Granted, Hasbro could change their minds, but yeah.

That's exactly it. WfC is three years (two really since ER is really where they went hardcore on G1 accuracy) out of the history of Generations. In theory it would be easy to pivot away to more new designs based on classic characters but in practice you're gonna see all of the backlash from the message board types even if it would sell well.

 

I agree, the aesthetic and battle damage absolutely set it apart from anything before it even if it carried a few things over from the last trilogy.
