So, there's been a lot of speculation on this subject, so I thought I'd whip together a couple of diagrams to show what the fuss is about:

On the left pictures, look at the part of the toy marked with green. Despite sporting some red hinges, big blue panels on the back of the cab, and something grey sticking out the top, none of it moves between robot and vehicle modes. We know Hasbro isn't going to arbitrarily increase a toy's parts count for no reason, so what does all that stuff do? Theory: transform to give a combined robot its chest.

In the right-hand picture, note the tab on the thigh, and the hinged grey panel with a slot on the calf. To connect the tab to the slot, you'd have to rotate the thigh swivel so the toes point outwards, bend the knees 45 degrees, then flip up the grey panel. Sound familiar? It should, because that's exactly how several Power Core Combiners prep their legs for torso mode:

You can also note that there's a hollowed out section in Prime's foot - somewhere for a limb robot to attach, perhaps?

As for whether this toy will also be released as Motormaster, I dunno. It certainly seems to have been designed primarily as an Optimus, with chest windows, grill abs, shin vents, and even the toes have the design from G1 Prime's stickers. I guess we'll see.

Or he could be Powermaster Prime.

The shoulders make the cab windows, they fold round, look at the curvature of the shoulders in relationship to the smokestacks they fold forward and close on the front.

Im thinking those arm panels may be able to fold onto the underside of the arms as well.

Good deduction but I rather they give us a decent, regular Optimus to replace the original Classics Optimus - and we just got Evasion Optimus!

I'm actually stunned we're getting this figure after getting gems like Whirl, Blitzwing (QC issues aside), Springer etc! LOL!

The first thing I thought of when I saw this guy was PMOP/Ginrai. I could totally accept a lackluster basic robot mode if there's a good super robot form to be had. And a Powermaster partner, of course.

That's interesting and all, but I can't help but wonder why they wouldn't say he's a combiner from the beginning if he was.

True that. You have a neat idea...but I'm afraid we are really looking at just a very lackluster attempt at another prime.

If they did show these pics, without mentioning a combined gimmick, then they are shooting themselves in the foot for showing a really dismal toy, without saying anything.

Especially if this is an individual part intended to be included in a bigger set (say leader size or bigger) later on. I've said before that armored/Powermaster/Super Optimus could share a cab part with an upcoming Ultra Magnus but each would have separate trailers/armor. Releasing the cab on its own for a cheap version is something people usually wanted with many Primes in the past anyhow like the G2 Laser Optimus or Armada Optimus, both of which eventually got incarnations in "deluxe" pricepoints in some toyline.

I'm afraid I can't find a source for this right now, but apparently the guys doing the Hasbro panel had to butter up their higher-ups just to be allowed to show the Superion silhouette, so it's possible that Hasbro management forbade them from revealing Prime as a combiner yet.

Perhaps the other parts of the combined mode aren't finished, or they wanted us to find out for ourselves? Could also be hiding it from us till SDCC, considering it's not a major movie thing and there's no real reason to unveil absolutely everything here at BotCon? I dunno.

As cool as a Menasor would be, this isn't want I'd want for a Motormaster. A redux as Motormaster would REALLY have to impress me to pull it off well.

They can make a Powermaster-style Prime all day long, as I have no interest in this figure or any other combined form for it.

Because those figures were all designed by Kyde, who is no longer at Hasbro.

This Prime is the work of the new design team.

    Yup.

I wouldn't be shocked if this is intended to be part of a Gestalt set and the mold being made for Motormaster.

AFAIK Whirl is post-Kyde. The super-G1 styling of Whirl and Roadbuster came from the "new guys."

And I personally would give them more hits and misses at this BotCon, enough hits to keep me from being angry at one of the *hundreds* of Optimus molds being lame.

Ugh, so Whirl was also from the guy that left Hasbro?

Who designed the new BW molds? Are these dudes gone too?
