While I enjoy Transformers comics, they are on the low end of what I would consider good literature and there are many more deserving comics, especially considering what a rocky year IDW had in general.

Unlike a lot of people here, I read a lot of comics other than Transformers.

I understand this is a Transformers website and we all love the franchise, but I take comic books seriously. I can't in good conscience lie and say that MTMTE is the best comic of the year when I read dozens, if not hundreds, of better comics.

I understand you with limited experience of comics might think it's cool or fun to say MTMTE is the best comic being published, but I encourage you to broaden your horizons a little. There is a lot of much better stuff out there. What you are suggesting is literally like only watching Transformers Age Of Extinction in 2014 and then believing it was the best movie made that year. I guarantee you it was not. But there is as much difference between Bay's 4th TF movie compared to the legitimately great movies of 2014 as there is between MTMTE and some of the great comics being published today.

That's fair enough, but some of us here *do* read other comics as well. I'm not gonna write in and vote, but MTMTE/LL is my favourite book on the shelves just now. Several comics commentators (House to Astonish, Comics Alliance, Jay and Miles) have had it in their year-end awards as well. Different strokes for different folks.

"Favorite" isn't the same thing as "best."

I like Transformers enough that Last Knight will likely be my favorite movie of 2017. But there's no way in hell it's going to be the BEST movie of 2017. Not even if Hollywood falls into the ocean right after T5 hits and no movies ever get released after that. Now apply that thinking to comics. That's all I'm saying. After that, if you honestly think it's the BEST comic on the stands, fair enough.

File under different strokes for different folks.

Likewise - if you enjoy Last Knight, more power to you! :)

I voted for Monstress because, as much as I love MTMTE and the other IDW titles, I think it is an amazing and beautiful book that has fantastic female representation.

Big fan of that book too.

Pleased to see Saga (which I think gets it's excellence taken for granted and does some of the best cliffhangers in comics), The Wicked + the Divine and Vision on the shortlist too. Some terrific books!

These books all capture something I alluded to on the Milne thread here - that "lightning in a bottle" creative team where both work so well together. I'm no Gary Groth, but you'll go some way to beat some of the creative teams (and Jordie Bellaire on Vision - the MVP of comics) shown here!
