If Legacy is intended to celebrate the legacy of the brand, why are they shoehorning everything...

From what I've seen of TFA and the TFA figure line, they don't need updates. They need straight-up reissues. Maybe for an anniversary blowout. They could even make each and every figure part of a buffet-style HasLab where all of them are bespoke and everyone who wants one can get the ones they want, with a reasonable MOQ of like 950 units.

    100% agreed

The thing is, Legacy isn't an Animated line, it's not trying to release toys that fit in with toys that were made over a decade ago. Hasbro no longer makes money on those toys. They want people to buy toys from the current toy lines.

Personally I'm loving that everything they're making from every line is all in one style regardless of what their past art style was before.

The only thing I hate now is the fact that I actually hafta pick and choose what I really want because I can't afford to get everything anymore for the time being.

I'm enjoying the singular aesthetic for the whole line. Having to di
I really love the HftD Lugnut; he's currently filling in as the "G1 universe" Lugnut on my 84-85 Decepticon shelf. But he's definitely a little small now that the WfC-Legacy corridor has pushed a lot of Decepticons larger to start with. He needs to be like the size of Siege Skyfire, just this absolute hulking brute.

Honestly the more time I have to mull over it I think in general I just prefer the Legacy method: taking these characters from a range of different sources and putting them into a singular, unified style. Even though I very much appreciate the original styles this provides us with something familiar and recognizable but also still new. Sure they won't always succeed in doing so but I believe the intention is to unify and pay homage is an admirable one.

I really wish folks wouldn't view the failure to nail the look they would prefer to be either an insult or a 'slap in the face'.

I said so before but I honestly wish they'd go further with the aesthetic: imagine getting iconic characters that were an amalgamation of their various portrayals. Like a Prowl who turns into his actionmaster bike, colors based on Energon / Superlink, a robotic lion head on his chest (Beast Wars) and a G1-like head but with Animated Prowl's visor / shades.

I think that'd be pretty fun and lead to some rad designs. D:

I think it makes sense. The figures that need an update (G1, Beast Wars, UT) are done in their original style. Characters from more recent toy lines that are basically up to modern standards (Animated, Prime) are reimagined. They aren’t meant to replace their original figure or fit in with their original toy lines but are their own unique thing.

Starscream/seekers definitely needs to be redone. I’ve lost count how many times something popped off on one of them.

I love Animated, but Hasbro should have no obligation to sell a figure to fit into a nearly 15 year old series. Much like CHUG wasn’t meant to fit into a G1 collection. They need to make toys that fit in with current toyline. That’s exactly what they’re doing and I and many others love it. Give me those characters I loved from other shows and make them so I can display them with the rest of the modern toys. I keep repeating this but they’ve said that putting more accurate designs of Prime or Animated figures in Studio Series isn’t out of the question.

Bring on a new G1ified Lugnut!

While I loved the Animated and Prime style I am all for this and actually want this, while still keeping the characters design in tact and I say that as someone who doesn't hate Bulk, Arcee and KO but Skyquake is a stepping point into the right choice of G1-ification style. But I do just like the idea of having these designs in a similar style.
I think he can be shorter than Seige Skyfire but he needs to have the bulk 100%. I hope though like Seige Skyfire he's a Commander.
Also just people are gonna be disappointed regardless cause lets be honest even if we got a proper sized Lugnut that is TFA styled it's not gonna be to the quality and engineering of the original toy line.

But yeah bring on G1-ifed Lugnut and whatever else they want to do from TFA.
Agree, while it'd be G1/CHUG-ified I think that design could use an update not just because I love the design, but also because the toy is a little off from the show design (the inward-styled arms are a weird design choice IMO).

I would guess the "slap in the face" comes from the fact that they are selling figures right now that fit into old movies and shows, some of them older than 15 years.

Animated and Prime are the only ones that suffer from being homogenized because their native art-styles never blended with the entire franchise in the first place. What people call being "G1-ified" is consistent for the most part with how things looked in RID/Car Robots and the Unicron Trilogy too. Although poorly done, the new Hot Shot looks exactly like he did in Armada, likewise with Starscream and Cybertron Metroplex. They didn't have to change those designs because they already matched up pretty well.

I've also not seen anything to say this hasn't worked well enough for Hasbro, too. People poke fun at Bulkheads clogging shelves, but are quick to forget Kingdom Rhinox and Tigatron, ER Grapple, Siege Starscream and Thundercracker... Plenty of popular characters with good toys that shelf-warmed too. Most people seem genuinely excited about the new Prowl, even if it's not done in Wyatt's style.

Anyways, I'm really sad about what they did to Beast Machines Optimus Primal... Oh wait, that was a dream. Hasbro will never touch Beast Machines again.

I feel like they way they handled generations versions of characters during RTS / HFTD was better in a few ways

RTS Lugnut being a Prime example, it gave a new take on his overall design for a generations aesthetic and achieves it extremely well, managing to represent the character very well while also being different enough in its own right

Its was a much better way of doing it that what they did with Legacy Arcee and Bulkhead

Legacy Prowl and Skyquake seem to be approaching the idea of generations versions of them a good bit better than this effort wave Legacy

My biggest issue with Arcee and Bulkhead, and by extension Knockout is that they appear overly simplistic because of all the squared off proportions and shapes

Skyquake and Prowl on the other hand have much nicer shapes, curves and angles to them to actually make them aesthetically interesting, not as visually engaging and interesting as RTS Lugnut or HFTD Seaspray, but still more interesting than wave 1 Legacy

And that squared boring still isn't just an issue I had with the TFP updates, I also had that same issue with a majority of WFC trilogy and Legacy figures such as legacy Skids and the Stunticons as well

I can only imagine what they would have looked like in the previous old Generations aesthetic, like old Generations Sargent Kup and RTS Perceptor style

That just sounds like nostalgia blindness and rose tinted glasses

The Armada Toyline was one of the best selling TF lines period for example

Cybertron is well remembered and it's toys praised and revered

All that is true, so clearly obscure toy-only G1 guys are a much safer bet than say, Demolishor, Lugnut or X-Brawn. /s

I never understood why they needed to G1'ify TFP Arcee, when there's already a G1 Arcee. I like that there are different versions of characters with different art styles and alt modes.

That was my initial reaction too for Arcee as I feel they should have prioritized Prime original characters like Airachnid that have no G1 equivalent. Yet, with the multiverse in mind, it makes more sense for them to do characters like Arcee as the G1 and Prime versions can coexist. But that’s just how I explain it away lol
