Sure, Go watch Star Trek by JJ Abrams, and the go and watch a Transformers Movie by Micheal Bay. That should provide you with enough information to make a qualified conclusion.

He wouldn't be a bad choice if the next movie becomes more alien. I like Super 8 and Cloverfiield, he did a great job on them. Star Trek however was a fun movie and made me a bit of a fan considering how lame and boring tbe old series were. It's either J.J. Abrams or Neil Blomkamp, both would bring something interesting to the screen.
Judging by Star Trek 1 and 2, we'd probably get a middling movie that has little, if any points of excitement.
Expect the Transformers to look completely different if J.J took the helm.. He is an egotist similar to Bay... He would re-envision the Transformers to look more Alien like, and add those much unneeded lense flares.. and everything will be super bright and shiny... He is the type that doesn't take someone elses left overs.. He will want a complete reboot, and with completely different characters, created by him....Hasbro will say no and he would walk away and do a Go Bots movie instead..
There would still be a shit ton of human drama in the plot, only now they would all be painfully played straight and generic with out any life. Probably wouldn't even see a transformer till the last 20 minutes ala cloverfeild. He'd spend so much time hyping up some sort of twist that would be anticlimactic.
I like J.J but he doesn't fit in there will be too much human drama more than the first 3 had and lens flares and the Transformers will look alien like and barely any action
